Happy 2016 I'm starting off the year trying to eat better..so here are the results from the latest Fruit/Veggie buying haul. (I'm still in South Texas and we are blessed with lost of fresh produce.) Bought the Shit outta all kinda goodness. I had hopes of showing off the latest raw carrot cake I made, but my family ate it faster than I could food process carrots. (And that's pretty damn fast!) I'm still so amazed that everyone likes the raw food. So that 2 BIG raw food myths busted: 1. It's tasteless 2. It's so much hard work. It's been my experience all the raw food is very tasty and super easy to make. IDK - whoever says otherwise has probably never actually tried it. Just more silly meat #propaganda or some such shite. Now I'm off to make a big bunch of Nice Cream -- hopefully pictures to follow soon. Seems like a good day to explore a bit more. We headed back to Penrith. (See map below.) The weather was still much cooler than I am used to, making it a fun experiences, instead of the miserable 100+ temps we are used to in South Texas. I can't believe I'm wearing a coat in June! How cute is this? Finished up errands there and then off to see the ducks! I have 2 weeks to get my house in order before company arrives from New Orleans. Once she gets here we are out exploring every day. (So excited!)
So look for upcoming posts on Scotland, The Lakes and of course cleaning, lol. Catch you at the airport- *Warning* Picture Heavy Post We continued our "Texas Road Trip 2015 Tour" by spending a week in Big Bend State Park. If you want to read about were we stayed and some of the other adventures click here and here. The trip was over 6 weeks long and I'm still sorting pictures! "There is a place in Far West Texas where night skies are dark as coal and rivers carve temple-like canyons in ancient limestone. Here, at the end of the road, hundreds of bird species take refuge in a solitary mountain range surrounded by weather-beaten desert. Tenacious cactus bloom in sublime southwestern sun, and diversity of species is the best in the country. This magical place is Big Bend."- http://www.nps.gov/bibe/index.htm The park stretches along the Rio Grande in far west Texas, on the U.S.-Mexico border. We jumped out at the entrance and started exploring. The land is so rugged and different from my part of Texas. If you want proper info on the park - check out the state web site here. Visitors can hike, mountain-bike, backpack, paddle, ride horses or explore by vehicle (the park has two- and four-wheel-drive roads). This is Texas’ biggest state park, so there’s a lot to explore! Yuccas- The park has 238 miles of multiuse trails (for hiking, biking and horseback riding). Visitors can explore 70 miles of unmaintained dirt roads in high-clearance four-wheel-drive vehicles. Big Bend Ranch State Park is Texas’ largest state park, at over 300,000 acres. More than 500 prehistoric campsites and shelters, cooking areas and rock art sites dot the park. Many of these are near drainages, springs or tinajas, but some sites are on upland areas away from obvious water sources. These are pictures taken over several days spent in the park. The sky was always changing and the vistas were so awesome. We will definitely return. You need to prepare before you go to the park as water is very limited. There are quite a few camp sits and lodges, but they book up fast. Also there were signs to watch out for bears (we didn't see any) and bobcats. There are so many different shapes and sized mountains in the park. Its a very rugged, but pretty place. It was warming up and we were glad for the clouds and a slight breeze. This area had once been thick forests, but was logged in the 1930-40's. The trees are slowly coming back. We drove for hours without seeing anyone. If you want to explore an area without a lot of tourists, then Big Bend is the place. A few cars and people were about. We stopped (Still in the park) to see some fossils. The view of from on top of the small hill. I'm actually not sure where I took this... Another days adventure.. More Jack Rabbits! We parked and began to explore. But we were always on the look out for snakes. :x People from Mexico leaving things for sale on the Texas side. We parked and followed the hiking trail. We walked further down. It was odd to be at the river after spending all day in the high desert. The river was calm and serene. The rock outcropping looks somewhat like a ship. The area was well worth exploring. The sun was beginning to set so we walked back up to the car. Everything looked different in the changing light. A over look area to catch the sunset. :D Computer/site is on over load from all the pictures- Sunset pictures to begin next blog post.
See you at the airport- Warning: This is another picture heavy post. I have been wanting to return to Big Bend and the Alpine area for a few years, but there has never been enough time. This area of Texas is very different from my home in central Texas. There are mountains, deserts, different wild life and also the temps vary greatly. May is not a tourist month as the temps are already getting in to the high 90's F. But it was the only time we could fit a trip in. We took our time and drove out, this allowed more time to explore the area. Yeah, #Roadtrip! "The town has an elevation of 4,475 feet, and the surrounding mountain peaks are over a mile high. It sits on a high plateau, in the Chihuahua Desert, with the Davis Mountains to the north and the Chisos Mountains to the south. Outcrops of ancient volcanic rocks spread to the northwest. Other layers of rocks have been exposed over time as the mountains were forced up and then eroded. The high altitude cools the desert air in the evenings. Alpine is located on U.S. Route 90 about 26 miles (42 km) east of Marfa and 31 miles west of Marathon".- from WIKI We explored Marfa, Fort Davis, Big Bend, Marathon and attended a star party at the observatory. I took a few pictures, so this will be a few posts, lol. Next post on the Star Party and exploring Marfa.
See you at the airport! Hello! Felt like writing a long, meaningful post, but NO TIME at all this week. So much is happening, please to enjoy brief ramblings. See Spring is here and no one wants to be inside. We have a brief window before it become unbelievably HOT. No time to sit at desk, must be out in the flowers. :D The wild flowers are kicking butt. See? On my way to the mail box at home I saw the iris's are also getting in the game. I just love them. I made time this week to get my passport picture done. Now I just have to mail off for my renewal. If you follow me on instagram and dayre you know that I have been stocking up on fruit this week. Strawberries are a nice addition too... One of my friends is getting a divorce (out of the blue) and she ended up in my office most of the day. I feel so bad for her. She and her daughter are just lost as to what they should do next. No one even knew they weren't getting along. So it was a BIG shock to our group too. :o Now on to something more pleasant... I was surfing Ebay for something (Can't remb what?) and found a GREAT DEAL on polish. Hope to carve out enough time this weekend to try them out. It was just such a crazy week, sorry for the lack of posts. Will attempt to do better in April. I have a short trip to Dallas and another to new Orleans coming up. Yeah #Travel! I am excited. :D
And I must report with juicing, eating more fruit and making time to walk or workout I am feeling better than I have in a long while. I really think the food I was consuming was making me ill. I'm not lossing any weight, which is actually ok. The main thing is I'm feeling so MUCH BETTER. And my stress has gone way, way down. It actually doesn't make any sense, because I still have reports/projects/BS at work and home that needs to be dealt with. WTF?!? Could it be that if we eat right we stress less? Catch you later- Hi and Happy Spring! Hope you are having lovely spring weather. I have been enjoying this fine weather by shopping a bit. Ok, actually shopping A LOT lately. :o Are you sticking to those New Years resolutions? Exercise more often and eat better were the two BIG issues for me. Its been tough, but I have been doing both. When I eat healthier I always feel better. So while I'm on a roll I thought I had better stock up on healthy foods. Thats my main downfall, I'm lazy. I admit it. While working long hours I get hungry and just grab whatever is close by. :/ If it's fruit then I eat fruit, if it's junk then I eat junk...if it's a chair, well you get the idea. Thanks to Groupon I finally tried Geenling. It's a local, organic grocery delivery market in central Texas. Groupon offered $50USD for $25USD including free delivery! #WIN To be honest I'm not sure why I waited? That lazy thing again, I guess? Here's what I bought: Actually everything in the bin was good.. I should have taken pictures faster, but I was too busy eating with both hands. #ImNotLying So please to look at the sunflower seed spread and be amazed at my shopping powers. LOL Best.NIGHT.CREAM.EVER! But it should be for what it cost. $110.USD per jar @ Sephora. I also stocked up on ZAP. I tried it in a VeganCuts box and really think it helped my allergies. I now give to everyone around me who is ill. (And there always seems to be someone with allergies or flu or cold around here. WTF?!) They are all excited to take it too...saying they can breath better immediately. Do try it if you are having those kinds of problems. I was surprised to find out It's made right up the road from here in Austin, Texas. I took them to work and put a couple of bags on the "snack table." The locals were afraid at 1st, "What the Hell? PEAS? What kinda CRAZY ASS VEGAN stuff is she trying to feed us?!?!" but after one bite they were sold. All bags are now gone, lol. And.. And I almost forgot- I bought a new passport for my Mac. I needed another 1TB to hold all my photos and videos. Somehow I managed to scratch the top from one picture to the next. How? IDK. But it works fine. My computer is so much faster now that I cleared so many files off. #SuperWin
Speaking of super win, seems I alone have been keeping the US economy alive. Your welcome. Now I must get back to work so I can afford more night cream, lol. Talk soon- Hi & Happy Weekend! Hope everyone is having a good one. I started to find we were out of butter..:( Well almost out..I was 1 tbs short so I added a dollop of oil and moved on. I really need to include I do not recommend baking this way. I always ALWAYS follow the recipe the 1st go round. After that I experiment like Dr. Frankenstein (not really, but you get the idea) but the 1st time follow the directions. So here I go veering off course form the get go. (WTF?!?! But I was still in pj's - sans makeup & if I am cleaning up/dressing to go store I will just buy breakfast and be done with it, you know?) Ready for the oven Moving on.. The ingredients were mixed & I made do. 1 stick unsalted butter and milk were all that was added to the dry mix. I only had Lite Vanilla Soy Milk (of course) So I am sure that also made a difference.. Also about 1/2 the bag was used to make biscuits so I was happy I didn't use it all the 1st time around. After the butter is cut in the dough needs to be kneaded. (No rolling) I used the time-honored tradition of using a water glass as a biscuit cutter. I always bake my “tails” too. So that why it looks like that. They smelled good baking (light whiff of vanilla perhaps?) and all, but not like bread. Baked 20 min @ 350' The biscuits do not rise; so make sure yours are thicker than cookies. Taste? Good, to not much taste. I gobbled down 3 and waited…no bloating. WWOWOWOW I then had a cup of hot tea (Look at me relaxing like its almost my day off) and still felt full, but not “about to bust” like I do when I eat 1 regular biscuit. People passing by kitchen sampled and agreed they were different, but tasted good. Everyone said, “MAKE MORE PLEASE!” Next I will try the cake mix. :D Do not let my ugly picture put you off from trying these. Its just hard for me to cook & take pictures while cleaning the kitchen at the same time. So the pictures were hurried, sorry. Also note we ate all I made without butter or jam. I'm sure they would be excellent with honey too. So they did taste better than they looked, lol I know I will be buying more of the mix. Ok, I have a few errands and then off to work this afternoon. Take care & talk soon! "The doctor of the future will give no medication, but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, diet and in the cause and prevention of disease." ~Thomas Edison I'm Super Ultra Busy right now...(Meaning this is a SUPER SHORT POST) So it's even more important to eat right & make time for exercise. I have found a couple of good apps that are helping me. I hope to have time to review them shortly. I would like to try them for a month to 6 weeks before rating. Do you have a good app to share? Fresh is Best Everyone is gardening around here & is sharing produce! Thankfully with the latest rains the veggies are producing. So fresh Veggies everyday! Yeah! :D We have a long summer, but a short growing window due to the heat :( So it's get it while you can. LOL I will not bore you with Texas Veggie Pictures. (Unless you want to see them?) I also have French Veggie Pictures?? (No? Don't Care?) Alright then how about these roses? After I started rounding it up for that photo I realized JUST HOW MUCH of it I had! LOL and it's spread out through my house and office. Thank goodness for sales.
OH! I haven't forgotten- still sorting the Norway pictures. Promise to post on Rotterdam soon. Later- My brother just sent this along to me. Naturally Repair Wood With Vinegar and Canola Oil "Use 3/4 cup of oil, add 1/4 cup vinegar. white or apple cider vinegar, mix it in a jar, then rub it into the wood. You don’t need to wipe it off; the wood just soaks it in. Seems that vinegar and oil works on everything...lol" I was glad to just see a use for all the Canola oil, cause we all know we should not be EATING it. I think he pulled it off Facebook, lol, by the way. He knows I'm not there..so is news to me, I guess. :? But you know I don't think I'm missing anything. (re: Facebook) For the life of me I still don't know what I'm supposed to be doing on it?? Help? Suggestions?? Anyway back to Vinegar & stuff, That got me to thinking about all the stuff we use Vinegar for, aside from making pickles...lol Check this out:
Its great for removing those damn stickers that NEVER come off. To remove a sticker or decal stuck fast to painted furniture or a painted wall, glass or plastic. surface: Saturate the corners and sides of the sticker with full-strength white vinegar and carefully scrape it off. A expired credit card or such works well. Any sticky remains? Pour on a bit more vinegar. Wait a minute or two, and then wipe with a clean cloth. Great to rid that OMG smell from your lunch boxes, footlockers, & the car trunk Crazy as it sounds, please to soak a slice of white bread in white vinegar and leave it in that smelly place overnight. The smell should be gone by morning. Be sure to REMOVE the bread or you will have a new set of problems, and my fav to Unclog and Deodorize drains The winning combination of vinegar and baking soda is one of the most effective ways to unclog and deodorize drains. It’s also far gentler on your pipes & much cheaper than commercial drain cleaners. (Have you seen the prices on those?OMG?)
Ok, so let me know how this works & also read my disclaimer page. K? There are many more tips on line-- Just google uses for vinegar & have fun! See ya! |
