*Picture heavy post* Hi, How is it going? I'm going through the pictures & not sure where to file these. Under Austin pictures found on my memory card? Austin, mostly odd stuff? IDK. But here for your viewing pleasure are a few more Austin adventure pictures.. And Under what I wanted for my Birthday...I wanted the BEST Carrot Cake...from Mother's. Which was excellent. More Random Food Pictures... There is more, but this was enough for today.
Catch you later-
I posted this earlier on instgram
So what's up? I'm in Austin, Texas (in case you missed the greeting) lol It was a late night, but I still got up for the morning walk/run/crawl. I will get back in outstanding shape, again, damn it. I will. So after approx 2 miles I returned to the hotel. Most of the walk was through neighborhoods, didn't want to be stalker-like taking photos of houses, lol. So no other pictures. :X Anyway I cleaned up & went for the free breakfast buffet. I Was expecting a crowd of people; but the place was empty. Which was super nice, lol. I wasn't that hungry but did get a cup of coffee and some fruit for later. #win Did I tell you how much I love this hotel? This was such a great Groupon deal! Austin is close enough I can drive up, shop or go out to eat and drive back home. No big deal. But since this deal was for a suite for less than a regular hotel rate I just couldn't pass it up! Oh & free breakfast everyday too. Even if I just have coffee and a cup of yogurt it's that much less I don't have to purchase elsewhere, you know? Savings is savings... They had juice too. But the coffee smelled soo good. :) Next I'm headed to the pool. The rest of the day is reserved for some quality shopping & exploring. There are some great old venues I want to revisit and some new places people have told me I just gotta see. :D
I love Austin. I really do. I have lived here, moved away and moved back again more than any other city I have ever lived in. It's like no where else in Texas & if you love live music it's the only place to be. Rock, Soul, Rap, Country, Gospel, Punk, Indie it's all here. Ok- off to the pool now. Catch you later- So it's just after midnight here. What a day it's been! Finally in the hotel. No problems with it, just took forever to get outta Dodge & get on the road. So now I'm beat and just want to sleep. Do I know how to party, or what? I really, really like booking into a suite. So much more room! Am so spoiled for it now. 2 beds, 2 water closets, 2 tvs and 2 AC's! And speaking of the blinding heat, it is much cooler here. Was 103' when I left! OMG! 87' is like put on a sweater, really. It was so hot today I didn't feel like eating. So as I ran around doing errands and such I forgot to eat the entire day. #FML So made a fast stop at this Subway 3 towns away. But was still too hot to eat so ended up just getting this and taking it away to eat later. ok a few random shots of the suite and I have to sleep. I didn't take any photos driving in, as it was dark... Actually this was taken while I was unpacking. I did pick all this up and put away. I shot video of the room, before the explosion of stuff. Will look at how to/if possible to upload later. Ok, free breakfast is in the very early morning (like in just a few hours) so I really have to crash. More as we explore Austin over the next few days.
Catch you later- So I left NOLA & headed home via Houston to Austin. The NOLA airport is actually in Kenner & that's why a taxi to the quarter cost so much. Think Heathrow & central London. So I am amusing myself in airport... They do have fast & FREE wifi! Austin, Texas airport. I swear they should have a baggage claim just for guitars, oh wait they do! Lolol My new "travel" purse worked out really well, except its meant to be worn like a pack back & I took my pack back..the only time I wore both was in airports and it was difficult. :( But other than that worked well. I am always searching for a good all purpose travel bag. Do you have a good one? So anyway, I go to long-term parking & pick up my truck and off I go. About 5 miles down the road I feel the front start to "knock" OH SHIT! So I find a safe (hahah like that’s a joke!) place to pull over and check the tires. Nothing-- they all look fine. WTF?!? Ok, I convince myself that it must have been rough or uneven road or something and go on. As I leave Austin & speed up it gets MUCH worse. OH NO! So now I am in the country and I HAVE To stop. There isn't even a shoulder now. I am determined to stop at the 1st driveway/alley/cattle guard/road that I can find. So I finally come up on one.. (Why is it always like that?) and as I turn in I notice I have pulled into a church school. Ok, cool I guess. I jump out and see the problem. I am in the process of having a blow out! I am so thankful this didn't happen at 2:30 a.m. in the pouring rain & hail when I was driving IN to Austin. The rain was so bad I missed my turn & had to circle back. (Glamorous travel stuff, huh?) I boarded the F’ing plane before 4:30 a.m. which explains why I was so tired & some of my earlier crappy pictures from the beginning of the trip. (I apologize again, the crappy ones from Jimmy Buffets were because I had a date & I don’t see him that often.) *shy :X Anyway, the flight back was a lot better. I think it was around 3:00 pm when all this is going on. So I get out & walk around the school. I find a group of men. They do not speak English. So I talk to them in Tex-Mex with a few words of French thrown in for good measure and sign language. I tell them if they change tire for me I give them$$. They seem to be very afraid of me and will not even go near the truck or me. (WTF?) At this point I need to state I was dressed civilized and appropriate for church even (I pulled on a long sleeve blouse and almost had heat stroke, but ok) I was not mad, excited or afraid, but thinking back on it how odd? I was surrounded by a group of men and they were afraid of me??? 1 crazy white woman?? (Also so much for these men being Christians and helping a poor traveler?!) IDK Maybe there has been a rash of single, smartly dressed white women luring men to their deaths recently in South Austin? I went back to the truck and started calling people and had someone was there to fix the tire quickly. But THE POINT is WTF? Telling this story to my friends their questions: (+All of them " Why didn't you call me?" how sweet, huh? I am soo lucky to have so many good people in my life.) Anyway, Friend #1: Where you wearing your Rob Zombie T-Shirt? Me: NO Dylan: Where you waving a sword around? Me: No Friend #2: Where you insulting them in Spanish? Me: Not in the beginning. BF: You could have been killed! Me: Hardly, relax. Rick: I pity them if they had messed with you. Me: ? Now, don't get me wrong. I am glad they did not harass me. Cause I take no shit. But a little help with the tire would have been nice. I ended up walking around and taking pictures of the area while I was waiting. And no one said Boo to me. IDK, maybe I had been strolling around the Quarter for a few days and just wasn't really scared of much and they sensed it? Who knows. *Struts like a badass now* Grotto So it all worked out & I made it home ok. Just made for another adventure. LOL
Now, I'm off to capture the next kingdom and take the dragons for a walk. Later- Hotel was a great deal. Its clean, recently redone, beds are comfy & wifi is free. So it meets my requirments. The balcony is kind of odd; overlooking parking lot. But is ok. Can only enter from lobby - so is safe. But there is the typical warning - lock doors, don't leave valuables in cars, etc. No safe in room, but free at front desk, I think. This is a pretty safe part of Austin, or used to be. (?) Just general mischief- All the stuff my French friends are shocked at! People here cannot believe how safe other countries are. That's why you have to turn off the tv & go explore. Go see for yourself how it is..
So much I need to do while in town!People to see, places to revisit, shopping & a couple of bands I wanna catch. I really miss Austin, but don't want to move back. Once again I heard, "OMG! Why are you in hotel? You can stay with me!" So sweet, but I could not impose. *shy*
Don't take many pix while I'm out (focused on food & shopping, lol) Toodles- I sorta took the day off today. I did billing, returned emails, calls, etc. But also tried to get the last minute details cleared out for the Austin trip & began packing. Also did manage to catch a good sale via Hotwire on hotels in New Orleans. This Austin trip is my 1st using Groupon. I see their awesome deals all the time but hesitate to try. Heard some really horrible stories via the business end from merchants being overrun with coupons and loosing their shirts. My profit margin is too close to even consider such, WTF! But one of my buddies uses them all the time and swears by it, so am going to give it a go. But actually we are off to a bad start. I purchased this deal in Feb and booked and had to reschedule due to work. (I really can’t just take off whenever I want regardless of what you may have heard. The boss works the hardest of all) But to their credit the hotel was friendly and made a change no problem. But the next days I wanted where in their blackout dates, uh oh--but they honored the coupon after the closing date. (not blackout) But we shall see when I am there. I try to prepare for things when I travel, but also expect the best too. CYA and all will be well. Till then… It’s Never Boring..
I swear I have heard this story over and over…Seems when I was a very young child my mother ran into a band of travelers (she says it was at the market, but where was she really?) Anyway, these “travelers” aka- gypsies ran into us. I take it quite literally, as they knocked us down and smacked me on my wee little head. Mom says one older woman, looking around quickly grabbed me and placed her hands on my red hair. She was very still and thoughtful. After a few minutes she pronounced I would have “an interesting life” and they quickly left the market, in full run. Well she was right. Not always good, but never boring….and usually quite interesting. I’m in South Texas (America) today, Austin is the capital and I’ll be there in 3 days for a little R & R + some business. I waited until after all the SXSW was done. (Google if you don’t know what it is.) As it is sheer madness, locals leave & let the tourist take over. Did I tell you I used to manage a rock band? In Austin? Like 3 years ago? No, we don’t know each other that well, yet do we. But speaking of Madness… Next month I’m in New Orleans, Louisiana. So let’s see how this goes… Talk Soon-- |
