It's that time again!
Thanks to Goodreads for doing all the tracking for me. This year my goal was 40 books and I am happy to report I busted it with 47 reads! Yeah! I even managed toreview a few here on the blog. So let's look at the stats:
You know I am interested in so many topics that my reading list is usually very eclectic, but I went for more escapism this year. I blame the stress of the past few years, lol
I did manage to work a bit more on my language skills and read a few books for work. I'm continuing to read several series including 'The Dresden Files' (each book is better than the last, with exception of Ghost Story) and of course favorites authors like Anne Rice, Chelsea Quinn Yarbaro and Neil Gaiman are also on the list.
Do you have any good recommendations?
I'm planning on reading 50 books next year, so I'd love to hear your about your most loved books. See you soon! PS: This post contains affiliate links. If you purchase from these links the price isn't affected, but I do receive a very small commission. I only recommend things I use, love and find worth noting. These commissions help to offset the cost of this blog.
Hello!
I hope you are well and enjoying December. I have a really quick book review today. Recently I read A Dead Djinn in Cairo: (Dead Djinn Universe) the Kindle Edition and think that you will like it to. Its a very quick read at only 47 pages but very well written. It is part of a larger series set in 1912 Egypt in a steampunk world filled with magic, mystery and mayhem. See a clockworks is about to destroy the earth...
I think it's a prefect read on a cold afternoon, plus right now Amazon has the Kindle version on for only $1.99 so grab a cup of tea, get comfy and dive in!
MY QUICK REVIEW: Overall very good short story that drives you to read more, even if steampunk isn't your thing. Very good world building and a well balanced magical story with interesting characters, fun steampunk devices and just enough of the old Egyptian mysteries thrown to make for a very good tale.
The first book in the Dead Djinn Universe, I stumbled on A Master of Djinn and began reading over the Thanksgiving break, but saw this short (47 page) story as a prelude and decided to move to it. It is set in the Steampunk Universe of 1912, filled with magic and mystery. If you are looking for a short, entertaining read begin with this one and then you will be glad there are more books in the series. THE AUTHOR: Phenderson Djéli Clark is a prolific award-winning author. He was also nominated for the Hugo, Nebula, and Sturgeon for his novellas Ring Shout, The Black God’s Drums and The Haunting of Tram Car 015. Which I am adding to my TBR list. My Last Minute Thoughts:
Happy October!
Grab a spooky book and get comfortable - Is suspect it's going to be an interesting ride. Hello from Texas! How are things going? August is speeding by, or so it seems. I hope you are finding time to relax and enjoy yourself. The heat is still awful here, but we are making the best of it. I try to only go out early in the morning (hello sunrise!) or after 8:00 pm. But this isn't as bad as it sounds, this gives me free time in the day to read, nap and write. (Best vacation EVER!) As of today (August 10, 2022) I have posted four times on this blog in August! Now they haven't been Pulitzer Prize winning essays but I do deserve a B for effort, lol. I'm working on more book reviews, recipes and more videos as well. BUT I am guilty of only remembering to take photos AFTER we eat or return home. But I promise to do better, next trip. Speaking of videos, I have uploaded six new videos this month. Most are shorts, except for Part One of a Summer Roadtrip. Check it out if you are bored. A summer storm blowing in and I'm taking full advantage of it- Lighting candles, making a snack and grabbing a book. The kettle is on and all is right in the world. Where ever you are in the world, make sure you take time today to do something that feeds your soul and gives you pleasure.
This is your life, live it your way. Happy Weekend! How is July almost over?? This summer is flying by and on that subject, I popped into a shop today and was shocked to see the Halloween candy out! OMG! (Insert pumpkin here, lol) As crazy as that was I did manage to only buy one Halloween themed thing.... But before we go there...lets talk about summer reads. I stumbled upon this book: This book is a political action thriller, written by Jack Carr. It's not my typical read, but I think stepping out of your comfort zone and reading other genres is necessary. (After all we can only read so many vampire novels before growing bored, lol!) This is book four in this series and Amazon is developing it into a series starring Chris Pratt. So I did come in late to this party, but.... The Devil's Hand: A Thriller (Terminal List Book 4)
Set in modern day, with tech (I liked) politics (I didn't) this isn't my favorite genre. I do read some spy novels but this feels way too political for my taste. Covid, wine snobs, the author's extremely thinly-veiled political points and other themes I don't want in a book I read for pure escapism. I think for some people this will be a MUST read for the summer, but not for me.
Stay tuned for more reviews! Hello! Hope your summer is going well and you are not melting! It's been really hot here. One of those summers where New Mexico is on fire (seriously) and it's even hotter in south Texas. I stayed at a hotel last week and was chatting with other hotel guests about the heat and one actually said, "Welcome to HELL!" Err, okay. Thanks for that. I drove to the Gulf Coast for a week and it was actually COOLER there than LONDON. WTF? How is that even possible? But enough going on about the weather, I am pleased to share a new book review with you. This week I read The Sentinel a Jack Reacher, novel by Lee Child and Andrew Child. Read on for my quick review. This is book number 25 in the Jack Reacher series. At the time of this writing there are currently 27 novels published and a feature movie (2012) as well as an Amazon series (2022 -?) The Sentinel: A Jack Reacher Novel by Lee Child and Andrew Child
My Last Minute Thoughts:
And just like that it's June again!
Hope you have a great adventure planned and plenty of good books to read! |
