I will be traveling this weekend so maybe I will do another 'Full Day' post, and show you what I do when I'm on a road trip.
See you at the airport~ When I first read this on the blog challenge I thought of:
1. Paris (because I always think of Paris) 2. Birthday candles (Because of the wish thing) 3. Shooting Stars (Also make a wish thingy) To be honest I don't wish for much. Just my son and myself to be healthy. I feel we are so blessed with our lives in general. So it made me stop and think what would I wish for? Besides health? Hmmm, I mean I could always use another pair of shoes or more cruises or a petite manison à paris, but who couldn't, right? World peace of course, and a trillion dollars and 888 new clients, but it just goes off the rails there. I start backtracking with what would I do with that much money? Taxes, fees, blah, blah and I can barely manage the clients I have now...add another 888? Are you kidding me? So yeah, I guess I will stick to wishing for health, and more opportunities to travel. What would you wish for today? See you tomorrow for another installment in the blogging challenge. Something Your Proud of Accomplishing Recently
Hmmm, I had to think on this one… I’m proud of a lot of stuff.
What are you proud of this week? Let me know in the comments section below. And see you tomorrow for “Favorite Fashion Trend” OMG Where do I start? My Goals for September are pretty ambitions. Because of course, I have my business goals, (for my day job), my blog goals and my travel goals. My travel goals are ALWAYS ambitions, lol. Plus my normal monthly goals: Walk 10,000+ steps a day, eat better, make art, spend more time with my son, world peace, etc. When people start to understand how much I have going on, they seem amazed. I’m often ask how I get as much done as I do? My short answer is I stay organized and set goals. Without clear monthly goals I personally, wouldn’t get anything done. Are you a goal setter too? BIG SEPTEMBER GOALS
February I sucked it up and hired more help. Since then I have hired two more people and things are really shifting now. Honestly, I should have done this last year, but somehow I convinced myself I didn’t have time to train them. Sure… SMH Both of these new lifesavers are ambitious and productive. They are assets to my business and are helping me remember why I do what I do again. These angels are also allowing me time to step away from the office and breathe. This is making work enjoyable once more and not the life sucking, black hole of deadlines and never-ending paperwork it had recently turned into. #AnotherTrueStory So with this new found time on my hands I committed to going to bed, (most nights) at a reasonable hour. I usually always woke up early, but now I don’t feel like I was hit by bus! I started a practical morning routine to help me stay motivated and plan out my day. I now have time for yoga, plus a morning walk and time to make a leisurely breakfast and visit with my son. Plus with the extra sleep I feel so much better. Now when I’m at work it’s pleasant and even enjoyable again. This also helped me get to the bottom of what and why I procrastinate on some projects and not on others. I farmed out the tasks that make me crazy and got those stuck projects moving again! #Win Another big change in my professional life was I stopped taking on ‘all things’ offered to me. I also got picky with my clients. I don’t except everyone who contacts me. If I know we aren’t a good fit I refer them to someone else. With these simple changes I only commit to new, worthwhile projects that lead towards my goals. I stopped overthinking and listened to my gut/heart on this and freed up so much energy! Then a total miracle happened… I actually have time to travel again! #WTF?! Which leads me to the another BIG Goals for the rest of 2018 - 2. Plan More Trips!
I want to plan at least one trip every other month and one or two small, weekend get aways on the months I’m not leaving the state. This gives me something to look forward to and feeds my wanderlust in a productive way. If I don’t plan out days off, they just won’t happen and I need up burned out from over working. 3. Blog Everyday Another goal for September is to blog everyday. Some posts are gonna be short and sweet and some are mini novels, lol. I actually have over ten finished and queued up waiting to post. So do come back visit this silly little blog again soon. (Who knows, there might even be a new post up?) Do you set goals? How do you stay motivated and on track? I’d love to hear. Working for yourself and being a parent is taxing. Honestly keeping lists and setting goals are the only way I can survive. See you at the airport~
3..2..1..It's Monday!
How can the weekends fly by so fast? I know, its because so much happens in such a short time, right? Hope your weekend was good. I actually worked all weekend long. Friday was a twenty hour day at the office. #Yikes and Yes, I said 20 hours. #FML We have a big launch going on and are beginning new projects too, so it's really crazy. I mean long hours and lots of work. On the bright side the boss, (Aka ME) buys lots and lots of Pizza for everyone! #Win
When not eating pizza at work, I have been trying to eat healthy. I have a smoothie or smoothie bowl every morning for breakfast and a bowl of greens before falling into bed. I actually have lost more weight, I don't have a scale but I was going through old clothes the other day, looking for something suitable to paint in and put on a pair of pants I have not been able to wear in 5 years.
So it just goes to show you can eat as much as you want (and eat WELL) and still lose weight. I have vegan nice cream, loaded with nuts and healthy toppings everyday.
Of course I also binge on Greens and not chips or cookies.
Did you know Brussel Sprouts were so good for you? They are an excellent source of vitamin C and vitamin K. They are also a very good source of nutrients including folate, manganese, vitamin B6, dietary fiber, choline, copper, vitamin B1, potassium, phosphorus and omega-3 fatty acids. People say they taste like cabbage, but I don't think so. I used to either boil them or cut them in half and roast them in the oven, but I discovered you could eat them raw! So I am super lazy, after a long day - I make a big bowl and fall into bed to watch anime and munch on them before passing out.
There really hasn't been anything on lately I wanted to watch, so I'm back to anime. I did just watch Altered Carbon this month and really enjoyed it. What did you think?
Some people loved it and others were lost. I like SCFI so even though it was learning new lingo, (how many sleeves did that lady have??) I thought it was a good watch.
I am also doing my best to mask and hydrate before bed. All this cold weather has us running the heater nonstop and it's pulling all the moister out of the air. Even though I live with a water bottle in each hand, this can really dry out your skin.
Have a great week and see you at the airport!
It's hard to believe it's almost Christmas! I've got most of my shopping done and wrapped. (So I will not be tempted to give it away early, lol) and just need a few little things for stocking stuffers. My list isn't that long so it will be a breeze, fingers crossed. I also spoke to my family in Texas today and told them I was not coming for the holidays. So Monday I will start mailing gifts to them. Well, I will mail some, Amazon will take care of the rest, thankfully. My brother called to discuss Christmas and tell me about the freak snowstorm they had this week. It usually snows in south/central Texas once every 10-15 years and turns into ice, a big mess and lots of traffic accidents! And people freak out. (See the news story here) But, fortunately this time it was just pleasant snow for about 24 hours and then was warm again. It does make it seem more like Christmas. It has been snowing here in New Mexico off and on all around us. But mostly it has just been cold, but it is winter after all. We have a short day trip to Santa Fe planed for next month, so we should have really nice snow pictures then! The bananas went into these vegan flourless cookies. I think I have finally found the holy grail of oatmeal cookies. These cookies were amazing! Let me bake one more batch and then I will post pictures and the full recipe. I am glad to say I will not be having any guest or be running around the country like a crazy person this year. A staycation seemed like the thing to do originally because I had so much work to do, but I actually am caught up now, thanks to an amazing new admin and extra help! #WIN! So we could go to Texas..but the more I thought about it, the more I knew sticking with the original plan was the right thing to do. I'm so excited about taking time off from work and just staying home and not having any commitments. It may sound lame, but after the busy ass year I've had it sounds like heaven to me. Okay, I'm off for my morning walk and then to work. See you at the airport!
I haven’t really spoken about Harvey. As some of you know I am from Texas, (United States) and while Texas is a large state - roughly the size of France actually, it's all connected. Many nice people have asked if I was affected by this massive storm and if it hit close to my home or family. The short answer is yes. It hit close and the rains following the hurricane devastated “my part of Texas”.
What Happened: More than six million Americans endured more than 30 inches of rain as Hurricane Harvey slammed into the Texas coast. The storm set historic records for rainfall in the United States, dumping 33 trillion gallons of water as it made landfall. According to the Red Cross, rain flooded an area in Texas roughly the size of Michigan, and nearly 52 inches of rain fell in Mont Belvieu (a suburb east of Houston), making it the highest total rainfall of any storm in the country’s history. Harvey displaced 1 million people—early estimates suggest nearly 43,000 headed to shelters, while NPR reported 7,500 people evacuated to Texas State Parks. A Reuters assessment believes 30,000 homes were flooded, resulting in approximately $23 billion in property damage, though experts agree the full environmental impact is still unknown. That’s not a typo that's a BILLION with a B and although the storm is over, the recovery has just begun. I grew up spending summers on the gulf coast. My friends and family still live in the area. It was difficult to watch all of this and almost impossible to not to rush right in afterwards. I’m actually going to Texas in a few weeks to help as much as I can. I promise to blog/video the entire trip. What I’m Doing To Help: I’m going to be dropping off a donation and lending a hand where it’s needed. If you want to help too I have added a 10 page Hurricane Preparedness Guide to this site. This report includes a 5 page Emergency Supplies Checklist. The whole report and the checklist are only $2.99 with the proceeds, after paypal fees, going towards Harvey relief. No matter where you live disasters happen and it pays to be prepared - so buy the report to learn how to protect your family and know that the money is going to a good cause. See you at the airport~ Happy Summer! I hope yours is going well. It's warm here as summer shifts into high gear. Between work (which is good, thankfully,) and the heat I haven't really been doing much. Nothing exciting is happening, but you know I'm grateful for that, too. A few of you have written me about posting more often and asked for an update or if I was okay. How kind of you! What can I say? I'm just lazy, lol but thanks for asking, everything is good, actually really, really good. So to prove I am still alive here is a random summer day for me... I get up early and it's already hot. But it really is a much better 'heat' than Texas. Although it would be better to be in the south of France right now, but somehow we make do, lol. I love getting up early - most of the world is asleep and everything is quiet and peaceful. During this time I meditate, do yoga or Tai Chi and then go for a walk. It's too warm to run, unless I see a snake...then I run. #TrueStory I also take care of my modest garden in the morning before it gets mega warm. I find by keeping my phone turned off I get so much more done in the morning because you know one quick email equals an hour later and I might as well check Facebook.... lol and the morning is over. So that is my big secret for working so much and still staying sane - Stay off your phone until right before you go to work and take time to do the things you love. For me that means working with the plants, spending time outside and meditating. Plus not rushing around like a mad woman. I would rather get up earlier and have more time, then race out the door feeling frantic. But that's just me, some people love that panicked feeling and use it as motivation. For me it just ruins my entire day. After I have an hour or so outside I return home feeling centered and ready start the day. I seem to spend way too much time in meetings, both in person or via Skype. By the time I stop for a break it's really, really warm outside. But, yeah- I still usually have hot tea during the day, lol. Well, I do cook a bit. And then I convince myself its time to blog....but I just watch Kodi instead, lol As I look back on this year, with the 4th of July just around the corner, I confess that 2017 has been a mild, mellow ride; I’ve celebrated wonderfully unforgettable moments but have also traveled far less than I normally do. This is a travel year for so many people, but for my family, it has been a year of healing and feathering the nest. Life has a funny way of doling out surprises — one day is never like another. Some days I feel as though I’m resting atop a beautiful mountain and others I am sitting at its bottom, the only view uphill. Work has been changing for me, evolving and growing, which is great, but it is taking more and more of my time. Don't misunderstand, I’m grateful and truly blessed. My family is healthy, happy and I’m doing what I love, but travel is taking a back seat. I’ve cancelled or postponed more trips than I have completed this year. But I did manage to go to Iceland and visit a couple of favorite spots so far. To read more about Iceland click here and here or hit the tag. Since I haven't left New Mexico much this year, most of my time has been spent learning more about the area via short day trips and weekend road trips. There are many cool parks, nature areas and events close by. I almost forgot... I did manage to squeeze some time out for fun in New York. Read about some of those adventures here.
I think next year will see us traveling much more and I know 2019 we will be leaving for Asia and MAJOR adventures there. #Excited So this time in New Mexico is much needed as we plan the trip and work out the details. I cannot wait to see what the next 6 months bring! See you at the airport~ If you follow me, then you know I like to read. I would rather read than watch television. I would rather read than visit with people and I would rather read than go shopping. (Unless I'm shopping for books, lol) But the trick, for me, is finding free time to sit down and settle into a book. But I am so happy I have started a new routine at work + the 2 new, super amazing admins have been a great help! Honestly. you have no idea how excited I am.. well maybe you do. Who likes to work 80* hours a week? No one, thats who,, No One! But back to the books...To catch up on last months post on what I was reading Click Here. This week I'm reading a book on tidying up and astronomy. #WildWoman The Life-changing tidying up book is translated from Japanese. I think you need to have a good handle on the culture to understand it. I was having a conversation about this book with someone last week and they drove that point home with me. This lady was adamant that I "got" the book, which she thought was bat-shit crazy, by the way, because I understand the art of flower arranging and calligraphy, and have studied Feng Shui (I politely pointed out that was Chinese) and studies about Asia. Her not so polite point was that she didn't give a fuck. Not about organizing, not about energy or any of it. She felt she was too busy day- to-day to care if her laundry was sorted, much less folded with love. #Yikes! Because folks as we know, there are few people out there busier than I am.. *See 80 hour work week and every blog post I whine about how tired I am. #GoodTimes But enough of that, I could have blown through The Life-Changing book in a few hours, but I wanted to actually savior it and think about the philosophy behind the art of making everything sacred. Yes, even the act of cleaning. So I read a bit and pondered it as I went about my day. There are some big lessons about not doing what every magazine story promotes as gospel, for instance don't clean one room at a time or only throw out one item per day. Ms. Kondo has some tips that make sense about tackling BIG spaces by sorting multiple items. The point too of touching everything and only keeping the items that you love seems very logical to me. But we established I was bat-shit crazy years ago, lol. Now also I should point out my house is pretty tidy, okay my house is very tidy. I understand the rule of putting things back where they go immediately, but I did learn quite a bit from this book. And yes, I'm down with the philosophy of thanking everything. I have mine labeled and sorted. When I realized that they were all going to end up in a box I stopped printing them. Well I do print out photo books as keepsakes, but they only contain the best pictures and go on the bookshelf! And it makes more BOOKS! #YEAHBOOKS! Here is more on the poor astronomy book I'm not even talking about. It's actually a very good reference book. I learned a lot from it and will take it on the upcoming camping adventures. Now I have books to finish, before my organic bubble bath fizzles out. Where did I put that candle?
