It's near by anyway & the walk is good for you~ Best Vacation Ever(Edited) To be quite honest I like Luxury Travel on a budget price. I don't stay in hostels. There are plenty of chain hotels I avoid and I would rather walk than fly Southwest. I am picky. I admit it. As a woman sometimes traveling alone, sometimes with other women, or sometimes with a child I need to feel safe. Hell, even when I'm traveling with a guy I still want to feel safe & so does he. I advise people traveling to the US to be wary of crime in tourist spots just like in european cities. Watch out for muggers on the Riverwalk in San Antonio. Just like you should watch for pick pockets around the Louvre, in Paris. But still don't let those worries stop you from making that trip. I am often asked what has been my best vacation. That's tough. As a child just going to the coast with my parents was the BEST EVER. As a teen camping and hiking in the state parks, visiting cities shopping or visiting any other country. As an adult it varies too. I really LOVE Europe. All of the above photos were GREAT Trips. Some places I will return to over & over (Bath) others once was plenty (Barcelona.) But am glad I was able to experience each places. I try & stay long enough to really get a feel for the area. I have been to a lot (and I MEAN A LOT) of places in the United States too. And not just airports. That doesn't count as vacation travel. Thats just GETTING to the destination. What stands out? Well it depends on what you want to do and why. Sadly it's no longer cheap to fly in the US like it is in Europe. And you need to consider the weather when you plan a trip. This (Below) is meant to be funny, but it actually pretty much the truth. So it really depends on what you want to do and how much time & money you have to spend. Sadly most of us have a shortage of both. Or some extra cash, but no time to take off or plenty of time but no extra funds. :( Thats why closer to home trips can be fun & easier on the budget too. It really depends on what your ideal "Super Trip" is. Shopping, eating, drinking, sightseeing, adventure, theme park or just laying by a pool doing nothing. Speaking of we have set a firm sorta date to go camping in October. It's firm except - it's based on the weather..if it's still MEGA hot we will wait. But see deer season starts in Nov. so NO ONE wants to be in the woods then, well no on except the hunters. :X And as I have said before I'm not a fan of Disney. (If my blog goes down and I suddenly disappear, then please dear reader start the search with Disney.) The older and more traveled I am the more I dislike it. We spent one Thanksgiving staying "on property" in Fla. It cost a fortune and I was done. :( I have been back 3 or 4 times since and I am really, completely done now. It is so expensive, crowded, hot and did I mention expensive? Also I feel like I am in a marketing nightmare where you must continue to buy and buy to support the movies/actors/themes or be a BAD PARENT. Plus I would rather see the actual places not a fake version in the park. But that's just me..Read some blogs and those people went to HEAVEN just seeing Mickey...rolls eyes. But no judgement, to each his own. Lately I really like to take cruises. I think its the most comfortable way to travel. You reach your destination relaxed and happy. I can't really say the same after flying. So my best trip ever? The next one..lol No really. I just love to travel and explore. I learn so much every time & meet so many cool people.
So tell me, what was your best vacation ever? And why was it so cool? Are you planning a big trip or have you already lived it? See you at the cruise terminal!
Texas & not Texas
Hey All, I had another weekend of work…fun huh? I'm living the good life alright. Don't get me wrong, I am actually quite happy to have a job. Work required me to drive to another town (approx. 45 minutes) to meet a client. Fun, except it was really warm. But still I was happy to get out of the office for awhile. Ok, enough of that exciting stuff.. It was a long drive through the countryside. You get the idea. Anyway, I finished up with the client and went to the market while I was out. I was surprised at all the Gluten free frozen food...wow Ok, enough sight seeing, lol. I picked up Subway for the office and then headed back. 1 more week here, then 1 week in Austin, Texas & less than a month till Vegas. :D Yeah---am so looking forward to some time off.
See you later- Antiques vs JunkHi All, If you follow me on instagram (if you don’t why not?) then you know I have been searching the Antique shops for a special shelf one of my friends said he wanted. It’s his birthday and my plan was to surprise him with it. :D Except I cannot find it. Which makes sense, see he has everything….really. So him not owning the shelf thingy means that they are rare. So he may just end up with a nice bottle of wine. :( Anyway, that’s why I have been roaming around in these shops. They are really not my “thing.” To me, most of the stuff is dirty, ugh, broken, double ugh – over priced and filled with negative energy. * ___ * (So let me grab that and drag it home, no thanks!) But I did suck it up and try. So here are some of the things I learned about Antiques vs. Junk. Before you run out, money in hand to purchase that “new/old” treasure you need to learn the difference in TRUE ANTIQUE, NEAR ANTIQUE, VINTAGE, RETRO & COLLECTABLE. A True Antique is at least 100 years old. This is based on traditions and custom laws in many countries. But, some societies define antique as been having been created before 1930. Near Antique -is anywhere from 75-100 years old. Vintage – “Of a certain time” usually used with the term collectables. Collectable ~ includes everything people find value, joy, happiness in collecting. Retro -means literally “looking back” (in time) & refers to objects created in another time period or era. But it can also mean a newer made item created in the style of another era. Confused yet? I am by no means an expert…so don’t take my word for any of this, K? There are plenty of websites that share information on this subject and I encourage you to learn about what you want to purchase before you go chasing it down. (Which I just did and see that I probably am going to be purchasing wine for that gift, lol) I can say after spending another afternoon wandering through the shops and seeing such a wide variety of objects I do appreciate antiques more.
Also note antiques vary from region to region. Some resale shops have collectables and even antiques, while others do not. I usually do go to the "charity" stores in the UK. Because all the stuff is so different, you just never know what you will find. And yes, I buy books there...I purchase books everywhere. Catch you later- ChickensHey, How is it August already? How is that even possible? I met up with my brother the other day. His current project was building a chicken coop. He found the plans on the net (for free of course.) So after a few trips to the lumber yard & some hammering his new chicken coop is complete. I asked him where he purchased the chickens? He said from some neighborhood chicken person. He ended up buying this rooster too. Check out his legs... WTF?? This coop is for roosting at night. (So don't start asking questions about size vs chickens) They are free to roam around his yard (its 1/2 acre and fenced) during the day time. He shut the door for a day or two so they would feel like it was home and not roost on the porch or his motorcycle. LOL * --- * And no, he is not vegan or anything of the sort. He will eat the eggs and raise more chickens to sell (like that neighborhood chicken person, lol) I doubt he will eat the chickens. (At least not after he names them and they bond.) I think they are cute myself. He still has to buy or build boxes for the chickens to lay in. (I believe he did that yesterday.) He is a farmer now, lol.
Prices: Because people always email me to ask. The chickens (including Mr. Rooster) were $20.00USD and he thought he might have gotten ripped off. (I don't see how, but ok) He said the lumber, wire and hardware for the coop were approx. $100.00. The plan estimated the cost at around $50.-$70. but didn't figure in the economy or the local oil boom which has driven prices up on everything. :X Speaking of the economy, my turn to help it. I have to squeeze in a little birthday shopping today. All these leo friends have birthdays approaching and are so hard to buy for. They have everything, so WTH? I still haven't found that damn antique shelf yet. I think he might just end up with a nice bottle of wine. Later- |
