That moment you realize your nail polish matches the jalapeños in your recipe! Matching aside, this was an experiment in baking hashbrowns without cooking oil. I found this recipe on a random vegan cooking blog, and it intrigued me. It was also sans flour or any binding ingredients in the mix. Could that work?? In my opinion no, but plant based Vegan cooking teaches us we don't need 1/2 the ingredients we dump in most recipes, so I thought I would give it a go... I added the jalapeños along with onions to chopped and seasoned potatoes. I followed the recipes... But it was not a winner. Sadly, that happens sometimes. It could be I missed a step (I didn't. I double-checked, and I even drained the cut potatoes in cheesecloth before baking.) Or it could be the altitude, I do live in the mountains, or it could be any number of things. Does this ever happen to you? You try a new recipe, and it's not a winner? We ate them, but... I won't use this recipe again. Okay. I'm off to match my nail polish to the next recipes! Just kidding... And because someone will ask... This is the nail polish, it is in the OPI shade: My Gecko Does Tricks #4364011 I've had it several years and don't wear it much and never realized it was so close to the shade of jalapeños!
Catch you later- 🌶
Hello! I hope everyone is having a fantastic week.
With the weather still very mild here, (more an extension of Autumn instead of winter), we are taking full advantage of hiking and exploring.
I snuck out of work early (so yeah. my office is still only 20 steps from my bedroom.) But it was such a nice day! We went hiking, did a bit of shopping and had a nice meal out. #Heaven
So when we aren't on the trails, I'm trying new things. Here are a couple of cool finds for November: We are LOVING Forbidden Rice!
Healthy, tasty and a great addition to any meal. It's pre-made so heat it up on the stove to in the microwave for a nice addition to your meal.
Grab it at Amazon before it sells out. HERE And I am sooo late to the party on this next one!
Alpha Skin Care Renewal Body Lotion
It's sooo worth the hype! All the beauty guru's talk about this lotion and for some reason I was put off trying it. But this month I broke down and tried it! WOW! I love it and it will become a stable in my war against aging. It is affordable at under $20, goes on thick, but absorbs well and by the second use I could see a difference on my sun damaged skin. BIG WIN! Okay, I still have about 30 books to review and a couple of new recipes to share...Stay tuned! Speak soon~ As an after Christmas gift to myself I took advantage of Pacificas end of the year sale and stocked up on some favs plus some new skincare items. I was going to wait till I tried all the new goodies for at least a month and then report back, but the way life is going that really means I would never get this post out. I just restocked the hair masks, underarm wipes and the Dreamy Youth day/night. They are all tried and true products I use all the time.
If you are looking for a really good, ethical vegan brand for your skincare and beauty needs I can't recommend Pacifica enough. Catch you later~
Happy Tuesday!
I hope you have some wonderful plans for today. We are in for a super hot day with temps 104'F / 40C #YIKES! I used to like warm days...they were perfect for laying by the pool or on the beach - a thrilling science fiction novel in one hand and ice cold beer in the other. #GoodTimes But sun worshipping isn't "my thing" anymore. The older I get, the more I care about my skin and more importantly the damage the sun has already done. As someone who laid out in an attempt to tan my pale nordic body I woke up one day and thought, "Maybe it's too late?!" Meaning too much damage had been done. But you know I'm not one to just roll over and accept 'fate' - So now I'm on a mission to both protect my skin from any further damage and also turn back the clock. I'm currently doing some personal research on all things skincare. There have been so many scientific advances in the field of cosmetics and skincare lately that it can be very overwhelming...Where do you even start?
These are some of the best sellers on Amazon and over the course of the next few months I will be trying vegan products out and reviewing for you.
My current (body) sunscreen is Banana Boat Dry Balance Broad Spectrum Sunscreen Lotion, SPF 50. Gone are the days of greasy, oily sunscreen! This lotion drys to a nice matte finish and leaves your skin feeling silky smooth. I apply this before gardening, hiking or driving. You will need to reapply every two hours, but it is really working so far. (I've been using since about the 3rd of May.)
This post does continue affiliate links, and I may receive a small commission of any sales. I only promote the products I use/feel are good values for you. By clicking the link it doesn't change the price of the product, but it does helps to support the cost of the blog. (So thank you!)
Also thanks for stopping by and taking the time to read my posts. I have a few new book reviews that should be out this week and some new vegan recipes, so do stop in again. Speak soon! Happy Wednesday! We woke up to a cooler morning today, a cold front had blown through in the middle of the night. It was a pleasant surprise except for all the wind playing havoc with my new seedings. I used to watch the weather (on several apps) when I was actually leaving the house, but nowadays I enjoy the surprise, lol. And speaking of surprises I was happily surprised with Pacifica having a 50% off sale. #score This isn't a sponsored post, I just really like this brand and thought I would show you my mini haul. Why I love this brand:
I have been using/buying Pacifica items from Amazon for a couple of years now and just recently started shopping from their website. This time I purchased: The Glow Work Energy Skin Love kit Mini Body Butter Coconut Power Shampoo Pollution fighting facials masks Coconut facial Wipes Coconut Pro Hair Masks As slow as the mail has become in USA over the last few months, I really didn't except to receive my order before May, but it arrived very quickly. I have been using the products and love each and every one!
All of this came to only $31.20 (including shipping in the USA) If you are looking for a healthy and ethical beauty brand, I would highly recommend Pacifica. Speak soon~
Hi Travel Family!
I'm the first to admit I don't mask like I should... But when I fly my skin dries out so fast it's a must. My current go to travel accessory is Pacifica Pollution Fight Blue Algae Mask. Pacifica is a Vegan company so you know the products are high quality and safe to use. I buy mine from Amazon and always keep a supply in my travel case. And for only $3.99 how could you go wrong?
This is an affiliate link. I do receive a few pennies from the sale of this item, but it does not affect your cost. Buy shopping this way you keep this website going (and not being overrun by adds). I never promote an item I don't use or love.
Hi there lovely reader, How are you? Are you as excited about winter travel as I am? Probably or you wouldn't be here. Until I can hop on the next train, plane or boat I'm at home working away to pay for all those upcoming adventures. So being I haven't done one of these "whats in my bag" posts in a long time I thought I would overshare with you today. (I did a What's in "My Shopping Bag" in 2016. If you want to go back down memory lane.) I actually changed out my trusty black bag for a more "fall vibe" this week. What do you think? It's a vegan leather bag from Vince Camuto I received from FFF. (I think it was in the autumn box, which I don't think I've even reviewed yet? ) Opps! I really like this vegan leather bag. I find it roomy, without being bulky. One downside is that it doesn't have a snap. A snap would make it perfect. So how much stuff do you pack into your work bag? I usually have files or notes, depending on what meeting I'm going to or what I'm doing that day. Other than that I try to keep my load to a minimum. Plus external hard drive, a hair clip, pens, lipstick, lip balm, a mala and a tigers eye bracelet. The jewelry is for when I need to look more put together. They match most of what I wear day-to-day and can dress up my outfit if I suddenly have a meeting that requires me to look more professional. Same goes for the lipstick. The jewelry is from www.Serenityreikiclinic.com as are the small bags. I use them to corral the small items. So thats currently all that's in my work bag. Half the time I don't even bother with carrying a purse. I just add my wallet and keys to this bag and off I go.
So tell me, what 'must have' essential am I missing? Or what is the one thing you can't live without in your bag? I'd love to here. Until then~ |
