Think Again: Power of Knowing What You Don't Know
by Adam Grant This was a recommended book from a friend and I'm devouring it. It has enough stories to offset statistics and is anything but another dry psychologist theory self-help book. Direct quote, "Intelligence is traditionally viewed as the ability to think and learn. Yet in a turbulent world, there's another set of cognitive skills that might matter more: the ability to rethink and unlearn." I'm finding it very entertaining as well as informative. You can learn more about the book here:
What I'm Watching: Debris
Looking for something new to watch? Debris is a new American science fiction television series. It is on NBC and premiered on March 1, 2021. The premise of the series is that debris from an alien spacecraft begins to fall to earth and causes all sorts of odd occurrences and problems. Then add in world governments trying to weaponize the debris and people coming into contact with it on accident and having supernatural experiences and you get a nice mix of chaos, horror, and government intrigue.
What I'm Cooking:
Smoothies! It's finally warming up enough for smoothies! I know it's not a revolutionary recipe but I have perfected the blueberry, banana, coconut, and almond slivers procedure! Okay, so mainly I just dump everything in the blender and call it breakfast.. but when simple works you stick with it!
Have a great weekend!

It's really a beautiful weekend in the Southwest! I've been spending as much time as possible outside, but when it's time to come in these are the things I'm obsessing over.
Here is a quick weekend round-up of what I'm reading, watching, and eating!
What I'm Reading: Reaper Man (Discworld, 11)by Terry Pratchett
I'm more or less a fan of Terry Pratchett - but I need small doses at a time of his British wit. My goal is to read all the 41 Discworld books, I think I've read about 4-5 so far. (I better get with it, no?) Currently, I'm about 110 of 352 pages in this novel and enjoying the book more than I expected. I will do a full review once I'm finished. In the meantime, you can read my review of Good Omens here. ![]()
What I'm Watching: Resident Alien
Looking for something new to watch? Anything that isn't depressing? I highly recommend this quirky comedy from the Syfy channel. This alien romp is based on a Darkhorse comic book series created by Peter Hogan and Steve Parkhouse. (Which now I believe I MUST read.) It stars Alan Tudyk and a talented cast of misfits. The comic series has been published by Dark Horse Comics in installments of four-issue miniseries since 2012. Five miniseries have been completed, and a concluding sixth miniseries is forthcoming. The tv series premise: After crash-landing on Earth, an alien takes on the identity of a small-town Colorado doctor and wrestles with the moral dilemma of his secret mission, while also dealing with a 9-year-old boy who is the only person who can recognize he is an alien. (Wiki) And speaking of aliens... ![]()
What I'm Cooking: Vegan Chickpea Cookie Dough (So much better than it sounds!)
Truth - I'm not a fan of cookie dough. I know some people would rather eat raw cookie dough than bake the damn cookies. (I'm not one of them.) But then I found this vegan, raw cookie dough recipe, and all that changed. This healthy alternative makes a nice dip or can be eaten alone as a snack. The simple recipe is here: Cookie Dough but be warned, you will be making this regularly. Have a great weekend! Winter is in full swing over here in our part of the world, so naturally, I have two things on my mind: reading and staying warm! Nothing like a warm fire and a good book! Fortunately I have a pile of TBR and a cozy place to read. #WIN Hounded by Kevin Hearne
I have ordered book two and three & can't wait for them to arrive. I also read Garden Spells last month while I was ill. Although, I couldn't get into it at all. I was surfing around Amazon (always dangerous) and it was a "recommended for you based on your other purchases" so I gave it a try. :( Perhaps will try it again later. I'm not going to review it - other than to say I had to force myself to read it....and feel like it was a waste of time. But I do plan to review at least two books every week till I get caught up. (Perhaps I should review four at a time or we will be at this till next Christmas?) Lol Making for a clear, but cold day. I'm headed back to my spot by the fire to finish Leviathan Wakes. I actually put off reading this series because I enjoy the television show so much. Usually reading and watching don't mix, you know? But I haven't been disappointed...
What are you reading? Do you have any recommendation? Share your current "can't put it down" books please! Greetings 'Net Family, This is very important now. Mega serious stuff. Are you ready? I need to know … what’s your Secret Must Watch TV? Go ahead, let it out. You’ll feel better, and there’s no TV shaming here. I’ll even go first. I’ve been watching — remember, no judging — GOT because I have company and they apparently are Amish cave dwellers (not really) and have never seen any of it. #WTF?! So as most of you know, I usually have the TV viewing habits of a teenage girl. This means I watch all the CW shows. Don’t judge me. But I also watch most all science fiction/fantasy and odd foreign films (okay, anime) lol, that I can get my hands on. But lately I just haven't been finding anything new to obsess over. And did I mention it's snowing and the city is shut down? The weather is cold, windy and unpleasant, so I'm looking for new, addictive shows, dear family. So please share your obsessions below or via email.
Speak soon, I have another season of GOT to plow through ~
Hi Travel Family!
Yesterday's post was about a movie we watched and since then people have been emailing me asking where they can find it. Amazon! Of course!
Note: That is an affiliate link, which I make (maybe) a few pennies off. BUT that has nothing to do with my movie review. Read my review here if you missed it. If you enjoy off beat science fiction why not give it a try?
We were too busy today for movies, lol.
The weather is crisp, but nice (read no snow/ice/rain/blizzards) so I'm doing a few DYI projects, I hope to post about tomorrow.
Hello Travel Family!
How are things? This was not a travel week for me, sadly. :( I had company over and we were looking for a movie to watch... Note: We were not BFFs so the list from the 39 Movies was not going to cut it. He suggested Alien Code. A 2017 low budegt release that neither of us had seen, but had heard good things about. The whole idea of aliens, time travel and how we would fair isn't new, but this movies take on it was novel enough to keep you watching. The flim was actually quite good. The selling poit was the acting. The leads were very talented and way above par for a low budget movie. At time it had that kinda campy feel to it, but the actors made you quickly forget that. If you are looking for a good scifi flim no one has seen, check it out. Speak soon~ Hi Travel Family!
The holidays are over and it's a few months before the next travel adventure begins, so what are you to do? It's too cold (for most of us) to do much outside....So why not invite your BFF over and have a movie marathon? I was inspired by a list of 'Chick Flick' movies I found online, thinking I probably hadn't seen many off the list. Turns out that while I don't watch much TV I do watch more movies than I realize! How many of these have you seen? Here are 39 movies to watch or re-watch with your BFF this winter: 13 Going on 30 17 again Breakfast at Tiffany’s Bridesmaids Bring it on Clueless Crazy, Stupid Love Dirty Dancing Drive Me Crazy Freaky Friday Friends with Benefits Gone with the Wind How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days Legally Blonde Letters to Juliet Little Women Love Actually Made of Honor Maid in Manhattan Mamma Mia Mean Girls Miss Congeniality My Best Friends Wedding No Strings Attached Pitch Perfect Pretty in Pink Romeo and Juliet Romy and Michelle’s High School Reunion Runaway Bride She’s All That Sixteen Candles Sleepless in Seattle Sweet Home Alabama The Parent Trap The Princess Bride The Wedding Planner The Wedding Singer Titanic While You Were Sleeping You’ve Got Mail
I have a confession to make...
I miss British Television! I know I say I have no time to do anything, much less watch TV...but who doesn't enjoy sitting on the divan and vegging out to classic tv once in a while? (Especially after a mind numbing day at the office!) And honestly there is nothing better than binge watching Doctor Who as you sip tea and unwind! Lately I've seen something called BritBox on Amazon. Have see seen the adverts too? ![]()
Seems now Prime Video Channels are a Prime benefit that lets you choose your channels. Only members can add BritBox and 100+ more channels—no cable required and you can cancel anytime. What a deal! #OMG!
Was this invented just for me? If you haven't watched much British tv then I invite you to give it a try. I think you will be surprised at the acting and the depth of the plots, or the silliness of the comedies. But who doesn't want to have a good laugh? Plus it gets even better, you can try it for FREE for a limited time! Also it's easy to cancel if it's not "your cup of tea." lol Click the link above or the banner on the side and I will put the kettle on and meet you there! The blog challenge continues. Today we talk TV. I don't watch that much TV but I am enjoying a few programs right now: I didn't want to watch Wynonna Earp because I had no idea what it was about. A western? A country singer? Demons? #WTF?! Then a friend told me what I was missing! After watching season one I was hooked. The dialogue was spot on and the heroes are tough, not frail women. They are messed up, swearing, demon slaying misfits, but who isn't? Plus it is chocked full of supernatural baddies that keep getting odder and odder. What's not to love? And oh yeah, there's Doc! Start at season one and enjoy the bat shit crazy ride! I'm also watching season 2 of Ozark. Unless you live in a cave, I'm sure you've seen or heard about this one. To me it feels like a 'Breaking Bad' type wannabe drama. Its well written and well acted of course, but I don't know... There is something off about it. I don't love it as much a BB. Although it does ask some of the BB questions, like how far will an 'average person' go? And when do you stop saying it's to protect your family and just admit your good at crime? At times it feels too heavy to watch and can be a bit predictable. But at least it's not your standard crime drama, with overtones of the Sopranos as well as BB it looks at crime on may different levels. It's immensely popular so I wont give away any of the details if you aren't caught up yet. And speaking of BB I'm also hooked on Better Call Saul. Which is shot a few miles from my current home base in New Mexico. Better Call Saul is the prequel to Breaking Bad.
Over the last 4 seasons we slowly watched the random players come together and evolve into the people we watched in BB. "Saul" or Jimmy, is the connector in all of this, with an entertaining, if not disturbing backstory worth watching. If you want to watch a smart, well written and staged drama, then give it a try, it will not disappoint. Thats all the tv I have room for now. Do you watch any of these shows? What TV shows are you hooked on? Share your recommendations below. See you for the next blog channel post tomorrow!
3..2..1..It's Monday!
How can the weekends fly by so fast? I know, its because so much happens in such a short time, right? Hope your weekend was good. I actually worked all weekend long. Friday was a twenty hour day at the office. #Yikes and Yes, I said 20 hours. #FML We have a big launch going on and are beginning new projects too, so it's really crazy. I mean long hours and lots of work. On the bright side the boss, (Aka ME) buys lots and lots of Pizza for everyone! #Win
When not eating pizza at work, I have been trying to eat healthy. I have a smoothie or smoothie bowl every morning for breakfast and a bowl of greens before falling into bed. I actually have lost more weight, I don't have a scale but I was going through old clothes the other day, looking for something suitable to paint in and put on a pair of pants I have not been able to wear in 5 years.
So it just goes to show you can eat as much as you want (and eat WELL) and still lose weight. I have vegan nice cream, loaded with nuts and healthy toppings everyday. ![]()
Of course I also binge on Greens and not chips or cookies.
Did you know Brussel Sprouts were so good for you? They are an excellent source of vitamin C and vitamin K. They are also a very good source of nutrients including folate, manganese, vitamin B6, dietary fiber, choline, copper, vitamin B1, potassium, phosphorus and omega-3 fatty acids. People say they taste like cabbage, but I don't think so. I used to either boil them or cut them in half and roast them in the oven, but I discovered you could eat them raw! So I am super lazy, after a long day - I make a big bowl and fall into bed to watch anime and munch on them before passing out.
There really hasn't been anything on lately I wanted to watch, so I'm back to anime. I did just watch Altered Carbon this month and really enjoyed it. What did you think?
Some people loved it and others were lost. I like SCFI so even though it was learning new lingo, (how many sleeves did that lady have??) I thought it was a good watch.
I am also doing my best to mask and hydrate before bed. All this cold weather has us running the heater nonstop and it's pulling all the moister out of the air. Even though I live with a water bottle in each hand, this can really dry out your skin.
Have a great week and see you at the airport!
