Ready, Set, Jet!

Happy Weekend! How is July almost over?? This summer is flying by and on that subject, I popped into a shop today and was shocked to see the Halloween candy out! OMG! (Insert pumpkin here, lol) As crazy as that was I did manage to only buy one Halloween themed thing.... But before we go there...lets talk about summer reads. I stumbled upon this book: This book is a political action thriller, written by Jack Carr. It's not my typical read, but I think stepping out of your comfort zone and reading other genres is necessary. (After all we can only read so many vampire novels before growing bored, lol!) This is book four in this series and Amazon is developing it into a series starring Chris Pratt. So I did come in late to this party, but.... The Devil's Hand: A Thriller (Terminal List Book 4)
Set in modern day, with tech (I liked) politics (I didn't) this isn't my favorite genre. I do read some spy novels but this feels way too political for my taste. Covid, wine snobs, the author's extremely thinly-veiled political points and other themes I don't want in a book I read for pure escapism. I think for some people this will be a MUST read for the summer, but not for me.
Stay tuned for more reviews! Hello! Hope your summer is going well and you are not melting! It's been really hot here. One of those summers where New Mexico is on fire (seriously) and it's even hotter in south Texas. I stayed at a hotel last week and was chatting with other hotel guests about the heat and one actually said, "Welcome to HELL!" Err, okay. Thanks for that. I drove to the Gulf Coast for a week and it was actually COOLER there than LONDON. WTF? How is that even possible? But enough going on about the weather, I am pleased to share a new book review with you. This week I read The Sentinel a Jack Reacher, novel by Lee Child and Andrew Child. Read on for my quick review. This is book number 25 in the Jack Reacher series. At the time of this writing there are currently 27 novels published and a feature movie (2012) as well as an Amazon series (2022 -?) The Sentinel: A Jack Reacher Novel by Lee Child and Andrew Child
My Last Minute Thoughts:
How is it already November?? September and October flew by because life was so busy! We took a road trip to Roswell, New Mexico, then returned home, repacked, and took a month-long road trip to Texas. #Yeah It was great to be able to travel again! We also went apple picking, (worked of course), made a couple of videos, baked, met up with old friends, and chilled at the river and the lake. Oh! And there was also a hurricane hitting Texas while we were there and we had to nix the beach part of the trip. "More than 100,000 Texas electricity customers without power after Nicholas. Restoring it to everyone could take days." Read about it here. But all-in-all it was a nice adventure! If you missed those short posts I have listed them below. Here are my Top 4 Highlights of Autumn.

I've got the vacation blues and am ready to set sail.
Unfortunately, the timing is still off for me. Are you traveling now or waiting on the "covid situation" to improve. It seems like some destinations are opening up while other close back down! And as much as I like to cruise, being stuck on a ship for weeks on end in port doesn't sound appealing at all, so I guess I will wait for the time being. Currently, I am looking at booking a trip in April or May 2022 (which seems too far away!) I picked up this book to pass the time. Have you read it?

Go to Texas they said.. It will be fun, they said.. Then there was a Hurricane! So this week we planned a few days on the Texas Gulf Coast....I've been craving the waves and since we are still banned from leaving the US (Damn Covid!) It looked like Texas was the best bet. Between work, family obligations, social distancing and preparing for the upcoming holidays, this looked to be the best time to sneak away for a few sunny days....but then Beta appeared. It came up quickly and everything changed! Current Advisory on Tuesday Morning: Last night I decided to find a new hotel, (further away from the Gulf and out of the predicted flood area) and we will wait out the storm today. Rain in Texas can be very unpredictable and I have been caught in flash floods before, so we will just play it safe and stay in. We decided to stay about 75 miles away from the coast. So far there has been wind and rain, but all-in-all it's not too bad. We will just sit inside and wait to see what the next few days bring.
Speak soon~ I normally travel for my birthday. Barcelona, France, the Yucatan, the Med, Switzerland, you get the idea. This year I stayed home and celebrated with my family and friends. We ate, laughed and had a nice week of fun. I couldn't ask for more, especially after the year we've had. I love Rome, (well most of Italy for that matter), the people, the food, the sites! It's always amazing, but I wanted to knock something else off the old travel bucket list…So in doing some digging I found August is a GREAT time to go to Greece! So after doing some research I think it will be ideal for my next birthday escape. Did you know, according to Visit Greece: "Greek sovereign land includes 6,000 islands and islets scattered in the Aegean and Ionian Seas, of which only 227 islands are inhabited?!" OMG! So many islands to see! I know we want to explore temples and spend lazy afternoons in museums…but what else is a “must see” and where should we begin? Reading online and then bugging my European friends I learned that in most cities, bigger villages and tourist spots, English is spoken, lodging is inexpensive and it would be safe for me to travel alone or with family members. (Well, after the pandemic is over anyway.)
Greece depends on tourism and we should all do our part, lol! Most people were surprised I never visited and actually I am too. It has been on the list for a long time, but there are soooo many placed I wish to visit, somehow I skipped over it. I will keep you in the loop with the Greece trip. I'm watching airfare currently and looking at villas to rent, sourcing the best vegan food options and trying to decide on a central island to make as "home base" for exploring. I think I forgot how much I loved travel planning... (shakes fist at damn pandemic!) What's on your travel bucket list? And when do you think it will be "safe" to travel again? Speak soon~
Happy Tuesday!
I hope you have some wonderful plans for today. We are in for a super hot day with temps 104'F / 40C #YIKES! I used to like warm days...they were perfect for laying by the pool or on the beach - a thrilling science fiction novel in one hand and ice cold beer in the other. #GoodTimes But sun worshipping isn't "my thing" anymore. The older I get, the more I care about my skin and more importantly the damage the sun has already done. As someone who laid out in an attempt to tan my pale nordic body I woke up one day and thought, "Maybe it's too late?!" Meaning too much damage had been done. But you know I'm not one to just roll over and accept 'fate' - So now I'm on a mission to both protect my skin from any further damage and also turn back the clock. I'm currently doing some personal research on all things skincare. There have been so many scientific advances in the field of cosmetics and skincare lately that it can be very overwhelming...Where do you even start?
These are some of the best sellers on Amazon and over the course of the next few months I will be trying vegan products out and reviewing for you.
My current (body) sunscreen is Banana Boat Dry Balance Broad Spectrum Sunscreen Lotion, SPF 50. Gone are the days of greasy, oily sunscreen! This lotion drys to a nice matte finish and leaves your skin feeling silky smooth. I apply this before gardening, hiking or driving. You will need to reapply every two hours, but it is really working so far. (I've been using since about the 3rd of May.)
This post does continue affiliate links, and I may receive a small commission of any sales. I only promote the products I use/feel are good values for you. By clicking the link it doesn't change the price of the product, but it does helps to support the cost of the blog. (So thank you!)
Also thanks for stopping by and taking the time to read my posts. I have a few new book reviews that should be out this week and some new vegan recipes, so do stop in again. Speak soon! |
