Inside the Roman Baths
Another "throw back" post. I am sorting through old photos and trying to organize whats left. I really, really like the UK. I never really thought much about it growing up. It was never a place on my "bucket list". But after one visited I was hooked. I love the country, the people, the castles and the wild places. One of my all time favorite places is Bath. I try and visit each time I am in the UK. Sadly it has been a couple years since I was able to make it. But each time I do visit I stay longer. :D Outside the Roman Baths The City of Bath was inscribed as a World Heritage Site in 1987. Sadly most tourist run through while visiting Stonehenge and see little to nothing of the town. Yes, go see the Roman Baths and the Abbey. But there is so much more! The hills around Bath (such as Bathampton Down) have seen human activity from the Mesolithic period on. Several Bronze Age round barrows were opened in the 18th century, meaning people have been here for a very long time. The area feels very good, really. Do have a look. Go see the Royal Crescent, The Circus and Pulteney Bridge, too. Get out and shop and eat here. Talk to the people. They have tons of Pubs, cafes and shopping too! Oh and there is the SPA! Here are a few random pictures to get you started. "Archaeological evidence shows that the site of the Roman Baths' main spring was treated as a shrine by the Iron Age Britons, and was dedicated to the goddess Sulis, whom the Romans identified with Minerva; however, the name Sulis continued to be used after the Roman invasion, leading to the town's Roman name of Aquae Sulis (literally, "the waters of Sulis"). Messages to her scratched onto metal, known as curse tablets, have been recovered from the Sacred Spring by archaeologists. These curse tablets were written in Latin, and usually laid curses on people by whom the writers felt they had been wronged. For example, if a citizen had his clothes stolen at the baths, he would write a curse, naming the suspects, on a tablet to be read by the Goddess Sulis Minerva." "The temple was constructed in 60–70 AD and the bathing complex was gradually built up over the next 300 years." Go Wiki for info. and- "In March 2012 a hoard of 30,000 silver Roman coins, one of the largest hoards discovered in Britain, was discovered in Bath during an archaeological dig. The coins, believed to date from the 3rd century, were unearthed about 450 feet from the Roman baths." -Wiki WOW- Will post more picts of Bath soon, Till then- Would that there were an award for people who come to understand the concept of enough. Good enough. Successful enough. Thin enough. Rich enough. Socially responsible enough. When you have self-respect, you have enough. ~Gail Sheehy
I don’t watch a lot of TV. Ok let me be honest I watch like NO TV. When I rent in France, the first thing they always say is, “You know about French tv, yes?” “Yes,” I reply and we finish each other’s sentence with “it’s unreliable” But who in the bloody HELL goes to France to watch TV? Anyway, it is never a problem, but back in Texas when it’s a smoldering 105’ outside a little TV is nice, lol.
So one of my buddies told me about True Blood on HBO. I was like, “um what?” Another Vampire show? Set in Louisiana too? Been there, done that. And with the Queen of Vamps, Ms Ann Rice, thank you very much! *Read her books NOW if you have not. Twilight my ass, don’t even. Anyway, it went something like this: Buddie: “No, No you gotta watch this.” Me: “Hmm, Why?” Buddie: “Lots of hot guys…lots and good story too. Good acting” Ok, that was the right combination to get my attention. + I was bored. She brings over her Blue Ray set season 1 & I watched the pilot. I was hooked! OMG! Shortly after I bought my own set, LOL and not just for the Hot Men, which they DO HAVE, by the way.. I bought the series because it is set in rural Louisiana, which is a lot like most towns in the South, mine included. The dialogue is funny and smart & right on the money. The writers, or at least 1 -spent time (or grew up, am guessing) in the south. Because you have to BE here to understand the way things work, its really not something that is even explainable to someone else. Don’t get me wrong, I love my Yankee friends, but do tire of everything being set up North, with Northern problems. Says the woman who watches no tv. Everything could be set in the South now, for all I know. It’s not, right? Anyway, True Blood is based on books written by Charlaine Harris. (Whom did/does live in the South.) I have started reading the books too, because I am waiting for the next season to come out on HBO. -June 16, 2013 according to the HBO website. So anyway, what do you think? Anyone else watch True Blood? Or have another show to recommend while we are waiting? Guess were I am? Well actually I'm back home now. It was quite a week last week, what with Valentines and work and men doing odd things and all. Thankfully, I did mange to get a break so am feeling all rested and zen now. This was some of the fine dinning we enjoyed on our trip! HAHAH Actually we just stopped for ice tea and it was awesome! :D I had a lot going on this last week so these are pictures I didn't post - so am posting now. I may have tweeted them? But it seems about 1/2 the time they don't ever show up. WTF? Anyway- It looks like I shopped quite a bit (not really) but I am so busy that shopping on line is really a life saver for me. It would drive me crazy to drive to the mall, park, shop and drive back home for just some simple little thing like this. So on line rocks--1 click and I'm done. Easy Peasy :) I really like being able to pick the samples I want. Been wanting to try the face buff and now I am for sure ordering a full size tube. The Sephora Birthday gift last year was really good too. Do you order on line too? I Just love Sephora! Also had Drug Store.Com order arrive this week. Continuing my quest to eat right. I love the Balance Bars as a quick snack + they taste amazing! The Protien Shake is ok. It has a slight aftertaste I don't care for. If I mix it with Coconut Milk it cuts the taste and is fine. Perfect for those days I dash out of the house with no breakfast. :( And because I am the BEST AUNT in the world... I also threw this in the DrugStore Order The 112 count MEAGA pack of Diapers. Yeah! It's great being an Aunty to sweey lil Layal. (I hope these will still fit her!)
Ok, so a lot of loot arrived this week, but then again not really. It was just a crazy week... I guess. I was really thankful for the break to rest. Ok, so now back to it- Talk soon! Hey! Happy Valentines. Looks like it's going to be a crazy week. So what else is new, huh? I confess to having brought the sugary, non healthy cupcakes to work. It was me.. On the top of each cupcake was a ton of sugar/grease frosting and a stylish plastic ring...Which we wore all day long. Cause what girl doesn't like a new ring for Valentines? Right? They were made at the local supermarket bakery, so they were pretty and didn't taste very good. (Which worked out well, making you not want to eat a second!) And a Silly Man sent me this sweet, single rose... Then a dozen more followed. :D And then another silly man sent me this lovely bouquet! I was really surprised! But now I am packing it up for a short, romantic get away. :)
Ok more like I'm just throwing stuff in a bag and running out of the house cause I'm late; because SOMEONE didn't tell me till the last possible second. And he knows I don't like surprises... Men. Anyway, Hope your Valentines Day Rocks! Talk Soon- “Remember that wherever your heart is, there you will find your treasure.” I hope you find your hearts desire -
07 : Some Of My (Favourite) Flowers Rose Water Lily Iris Hibiscus Stargazer Lily Tulip Snapdragon Pansy Blue Bonnet & Orchids This one was easy peasy for me. I LOVE FLOWERS :)
Really ALL Flowers, I like cactus flowers, Lilies, Wildflowers, Tree blooms, etc. The list goes on and on. Want to make me happy? Buy me flowers. Cut or potted or for the flower beds. I found I mostly sketch flowers and dragons, when I'm bored...so thats were my hearts is. What flowers do you like? Talk soon ~ #52week list "Certainly, travel is more than the seeing of sights; it is a change that goes on, deep and permanent, in the ideas of living."
Miriam Beard Sometimes I think we live in a king sized world. You know? Stuff is Big & it keeps getting BIGGER. I ordered another memory foam pillow as an afterthought for the guest room. I already bought 2, but this was one sale & I thought store in closet, use as needed. But when it arrived it is HUGE. WTF? Where to find XLL Pillow CASE?? And Ordered this cute dress to wear to work. Nice huh? Sorta cute in a business way, Except it swallows me! I'm tall (5'9 actually) so it's hard sometimes to find clothes that are long enough without being HUGE. #FML I really liked it too. But, On the Bright side (Cough) Ricks comment was: "Cheer up, It's teal not green. " Me: "Yes, so?" Rick: "Thats the color of Gangrene." Me: "Thanks, I feel soo much better now." AND from that to food.... And... So where does it end? Time to just say NO! To Super sized stuff. Come on do we really NEED that much Soda? Really?
Ok, Rant over. (For now) Notice I kept the post SMALL, hohohoho not King Size. Your welcome. Now go plan a trip or something with all the money you saved not buying super sized stuff. Speaking of XXL one last time: It's a Fucking HUGE ass world out there, so go see it! Later- Today we say goodbye to my Trusty Canon. So Rick flew in for a surprise visit & off we go. I did not bring any of the other cameras as this one is always safe in its cute little case in my bag. So we stopped to look at some random wonderful thing and I went to take a photo & some how IT JUMPED OUT OF MY HANDS and landed screen down and ugh.. looks like it is going to shatter any second. The large black "blob" on the screen is rather unhandy when taking photos too. But it was a awesome lil camera. May it rest in peace and comeback as a puppy or smart phone (WTF) something higher on the Karma ladder. Anyway I Blame RICK... And speaking of blaming the devil for things... (lololo) If you have not tried this yet, DO NOT GO NEAR IT! It is so good you will forget your diet 4-ever! And just live in the frozen food section of the market. Totally unsure how to tag this, food, (DUH), love (totally), the Devil (RICK), Travel, (we were traveling but did not take any pictures worth uploading, I mean look at my lil camera, for Gods sake! ) Perhaps Life?
*Note to self- my life is filled with ice cream, devil men and broken electronics...hmmmm need new hobby. More as I sort it out.... |
