I'm not sure how it's even possible, but this blog is 10 years old today. WTF?? How is that even possible?? It seems like only last year I took the plunge and leaped out there and bought this domain. Looking back, I've blogged about my adventures traveling in the USA, Europe, Iceland, Canada, Mexico and South America. I've written about trips planned, delayed and failed, as well as amazing adventures that were life changing. I've shared my cruises to the Caribbean, Europe and the Transatlantic journeys. I documented my switch from Vegetarian to Vegan, shared recipes, created book reviews and wrote about my day to day life. I've moved from Texas to the south of France, London, the Lake District and back to the USA and you have been with me. This blog has opened so many doors for me. I have written several best selling books that wouldn't have happened if I wasn't pushing myself to write here. It's also helped me to try new things, and be open to new experiences. I've gotten serious about Youtube and started sharing way more of everyday life. My world has grown as I've meet new people from all walks of life and become much more of a global citizen. Thank you so much for reading my posts, sharing your own stories and connecting with me. Your feedback, suggestions and insights have helped me so much. Your friendships mean the world to me and I treasure you. In the next part of this 10 year celebration I'm going to share some stats with you and take a trip down memory lane. (Reading the old posts used to make me cringe now I am just nostalgic!)
I can't wait to see what the next 10 years bring! This past week we took a week long holiday in New Braunfels, Texas (USA). The weather has been amazingly cool (under 85') and with scattered showers the flowers are blooming and the grass is still very green. I took almost -0- pictures this trip, so here are few I salvaged from the trusty iPhone. I would def. go back for another stay-cation type holiday. It was a very relaxing, easy stay. We left there Friday and checked into a hotel (seen in the "I love New Braunfels" picture) for the weekend as I had to work Sunday in San Marcos.
Next we are off for a road trip to Big Bend State Park tomm (err, today I guess? Because its now after 2:00 a.m.) I know I will be taking millions of photos - if I can remb I have a camera. LOL See you at the airport- Hi and Happy Spring! Hope you are having lovely spring weather. I have been enjoying this fine weather by shopping a bit. Ok, actually shopping A LOT lately. :o Are you sticking to those New Years resolutions? Exercise more often and eat better were the two BIG issues for me. Its been tough, but I have been doing both. When I eat healthier I always feel better. So while I'm on a roll I thought I had better stock up on healthy foods. Thats my main downfall, I'm lazy. I admit it. While working long hours I get hungry and just grab whatever is close by. :/ If it's fruit then I eat fruit, if it's junk then I eat junk...if it's a chair, well you get the idea. Thanks to Groupon I finally tried Geenling. It's a local, organic grocery delivery market in central Texas. Groupon offered $50USD for $25USD including free delivery! #WIN To be honest I'm not sure why I waited? That lazy thing again, I guess? Here's what I bought: Actually everything in the bin was good.. I should have taken pictures faster, but I was too busy eating with both hands. #ImNotLying So please to look at the sunflower seed spread and be amazed at my shopping powers. LOL Best.NIGHT.CREAM.EVER! But it should be for what it cost. $110.USD per jar @ Sephora. I also stocked up on ZAP. I tried it in a VeganCuts box and really think it helped my allergies. I now give to everyone around me who is ill. (And there always seems to be someone with allergies or flu or cold around here. WTF?!) They are all excited to take it too...saying they can breath better immediately. Do try it if you are having those kinds of problems. I was surprised to find out It's made right up the road from here in Austin, Texas. I took them to work and put a couple of bags on the "snack table." The locals were afraid at 1st, "What the Hell? PEAS? What kinda CRAZY ASS VEGAN stuff is she trying to feed us?!?!" but after one bite they were sold. All bags are now gone, lol. And.. And I almost forgot- I bought a new passport for my Mac. I needed another 1TB to hold all my photos and videos. Somehow I managed to scratch the top from one picture to the next. How? IDK. But it works fine. My computer is so much faster now that I cleared so many files off. #SuperWin
Speaking of super win, seems I alone have been keeping the US economy alive. Your welcome. Now I must get back to work so I can afford more night cream, lol. Talk soon- Hi, How is it going? I'm finally doing the Hotel Review for my Las Vegas trip. (It was last week, so I'm not THAT far behind, lol) This was the hotel I booked via Groupon. It was a king or 2 double beds for $14.00 a night. (Yes, $14.00USD) The deal expired, but I am sure they will run it again..just watch Vegas deals. My roundtrip airfare from Austin, Texas to LAS was $224.00 including all taxes. BUT I really shopped around. Still the was a cheap 5 day holiday. To read about my trip & adventures start here. So go to their website, even without a coupon they are very reasonable. And yes Ladies, it's safe. I went alone. Some friends from LA did show up for a couple of days to hang with me, but the rest of the time I was all alone. Internet - every day had to call front desk to reconnect me. :( they were nice. All staff were super & no one in hotel I talked to complained about staff (which is mostly unheard of) but it was a pain. There was a "resort fee" of $15.00 a night added on for free net, shuttle service. They also asked for a $100.00 security deposit. I gave them cash and had no problem getting it back when I left. I immediately thought you could fit a motorcycle in here. WTF? We are up stair? Where on earth did that come from? Anyway, I Don't know... Phone worked too. As I said I was calling front desk to fix Internet daily, WTF?! But the A/C was Cold and the room was comfortable. It wasn't posh, but it was fine for the cost. I didn't expect much and was pleased over all. Anyway, all the reviews say the same thing. Stay in the tower (I stayed in courtyard) because the courtyard is a dump. So was it worth $14.00 a night? OF F*%KING COURSE! Was it worth $100.? No. Would I stay here again? Maybe. I miss being on the strip more than I thought I would. But on the other hand the food was much cheaper here, and by cheaper I mean it was ridiculesly cheap. So again, maybe. Look at this in house bakery. People come from the strip to eat here. :O The casino is large enough. But honestly the smoke got to me. I have never been a hater on smokers (I used to smoke --- see Tmi for this & many more embrasshing facts) but at one point I had to just go back to my room. It was bad. :X This was taken from the Starbucks area. It's small, but services was excellent. The other cafes - small but good, quick service. There were a few men that talked to me & a couple that followed me around. But there was plenty of security & they quickly left me alone when I explained I was waiting for my MMA boy friend. (Lol that was a lie, but if you know of a MMA cutey I might be in the market). *wink* Most of the people here are of the AARP set, which is not bad, mind you. But as we got closer to the weekend more of a "younger crowd" rolled in. Most of the older set talked to me & were friendly enough. The was some Hardcore Bingo happening (according to one nice lady I met) but IDK I don't play. Lol and yes, I won enough the 1st day to pay for the trip. I didn't gamble much after that (rubs wood, don't press your luck) kind of girl. That was taken on the way to the pool.. Don't ask..lol So yes, more than likely if I could get a cheap flight and had some time off I would go back for $14.00 a night (even with the $15.00 a night fee, thats cheap.)
Catch you later- Hey All and Happy June. Hope it's going well for you so far. :D My plan for this weekend was to sequester myself at home and try and work on a closet or 2. Well the best laid plans and all that... I did mange to get a little bit of work done, then I found some new books stashed in a box and started reading, just for a short break. Then it was time to cook and then the day was just about gone. My nephew came over and brought his darling baby girl. So well *sigh*, I did mange to throw out some stuff, bag some stuff for Goodwill and find some MIA items too. Where does all this stuff come from?? Found stuff that I have no idea where it came from?? I actually am pretty ruthless about throwing stuff out. But clothes (and shoes) I have a tendency to hold on to. I move my winter/fall clothes to an upstairs closet for extra room. Keep the gowns (yes, I do go to the ballet, opera or other events now & again) in another closet so that I am not going through them every time I just need to find a suitable work dress. The exercise wear and "lazy house stuff" is packed in another closet. So there is stuff everywhere! LOL But each closet seems to look like this.. :( HOW?!? And Been awhile since I was last at Black Beards. Someone told me they had closed down. So I took a break (anything but clean, right?) and... Sounds like they had some "Ghost Hunters" types come by. Hmmm Go to their site and read more. Its a cool place if you are in Corpus to hear some good music and eat. The prices are good and the place is clean. They were there before Pirates were cool. BTW But there actually were Pirates in Texas a long time ago. Old coins are still known to wash up on the shore after a big storm in the gulf... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- While I was on line I checked my email that I had been ignoring most of the day-- And Groupon is sending me all kind of ODD Activities: and someone was kind enough to explain blogging to me.. These (Below) were the top views for May..So I guess it's traveling in general not "places" you want to hear about? Except that "Rules of Travel" post is about, well my mis-adventure with a hot celeb. & a creepy guy..lol (and some humor) So what to make of that?? *____* I will try and work on a post about booking the best rates in UK/EU when traveling. Soon, after I get my house tidy again.
Take care- I sorta took the day off today. I did billing, returned emails, calls, etc. But also tried to get the last minute details cleared out for the Austin trip & began packing. Also did manage to catch a good sale via Hotwire on hotels in New Orleans. This Austin trip is my 1st using Groupon. I see their awesome deals all the time but hesitate to try. Heard some really horrible stories via the business end from merchants being overrun with coupons and loosing their shirts. My profit margin is too close to even consider such, WTF! But one of my buddies uses them all the time and swears by it, so am going to give it a go. But actually we are off to a bad start. I purchased this deal in Feb and booked and had to reschedule due to work. (I really can’t just take off whenever I want regardless of what you may have heard. The boss works the hardest of all) But to their credit the hotel was friendly and made a change no problem. But the next days I wanted where in their blackout dates, uh oh--but they honored the coupon after the closing date. (not blackout) But we shall see when I am there. I try to prepare for things when I travel, but also expect the best too. CYA and all will be well. Till then… |
