Happy Summer! I hope yours is going well. It's warm here as summer shifts into high gear. Between work (which is good, thankfully,) and the heat I haven't really been doing much. Nothing exciting is happening, but you know I'm grateful for that, too. A few of you have written me about posting more often and asked for an update or if I was okay. How kind of you! What can I say? I'm just lazy, lol but thanks for asking, everything is good, actually really, really good. So to prove I am still alive here is a random summer day for me... I get up early and it's already hot. But it really is a much better 'heat' than Texas. Although it would be better to be in the south of France right now, but somehow we make do, lol. I love getting up early - most of the world is asleep and everything is quiet and peaceful. During this time I meditate, do yoga or Tai Chi and then go for a walk. It's too warm to run, unless I see a snake...then I run. #TrueStory I also take care of my modest garden in the morning before it gets mega warm. I find by keeping my phone turned off I get so much more done in the morning because you know one quick email equals an hour later and I might as well check Facebook.... lol and the morning is over. So that is my big secret for working so much and still staying sane - Stay off your phone until right before you go to work and take time to do the things you love. For me that means working with the plants, spending time outside and meditating. Plus not rushing around like a mad woman. I would rather get up earlier and have more time, then race out the door feeling frantic. But that's just me, some people love that panicked feeling and use it as motivation. For me it just ruins my entire day. After I have an hour or so outside I return home feeling centered and ready start the day. I seem to spend way too much time in meetings, both in person or via Skype. By the time I stop for a break it's really, really warm outside. But, yeah- I still usually have hot tea during the day, lol. Well, I do cook a bit. And then I convince myself its time to blog....but I just watch Kodi instead, lol I must say that through meditation and ridding my life of "High Drama" & so called friends my life is pretty calm. :) It’s taken a LOT to get here. I used to be shoulder deep in drama. Mostly mine, but my friends and families or even strangers, too. It didn't matter. I thought it was normal, I thought I was being a good friend and I was helping. :( After my husbands sudden death my world flipped over on itself. I went through some really, really trying times. I had major support from a few good friends and some how made it through the worst of it. As I examined my world and what I thought I wanted in life I knew I had to make some changes. Scary changes. :0 Like facing my life... Being honest with yourself is really difficult. We find ways to not spend time alone, not think or not care. We eat, drink, over spend, take drugs & have meaningless relationships just to not examine our lives. Why? What are we afraid of? I used to meditate, but gave it up as life got more and more demanding (which is the time you need to meditate the most, actually). I tried to do what was expected of me and what I thought worked for other people. But in reality is any of that (over spending, partying too much, etc -see list above) really working for anyone? Is anyone you know really, I mean really happy? Be honest, are you? (insert ad for cult here) No, just joking. I don't have any answers. The world is a fucked up place. But I can say that I cope better with meditation. I also know it helps my friends, co-workers and people I know/ hang out with. They still cuss, shop and work. But they are more "themselves" than robotic. (if that makes any sense.) And they are happier than before, because they understand that how you perceive the world creates it. (Like being pissed all the time, just makes you pissed off even more. Fun, huh?) Meditation has a ton of benefits. (Google it if you don't believe me.~) but I do it for the way it makes me feel. Mind, body & soul. If you want to feel better and are ready to start working through your crap then start there. Just sit and be. “If you want to conquer the anxiety of life, live in the moment, live in the breath.” “The mind can go in a thousand directions, but on this beautiful path, I walk in peace. With each step, the wind blows. With each step, a flower blooms.” ― Thich Nhat Hanh Who doesn't want peace? Take the time and make the changes your heart is telling you to make. Do it now. No more excuses. Cheers- This is a question I get asked a LOT. How do you find time to exercise and remain healthy while you travel? Well it's really not that hard. Raw! 1. I take my gym shoes, trainers or tennis shoes (depending on where you live is what you call them) with me when I travel. If I make room for them I'm GOING to USE THEM. lol :0 Cause I usually pack too many shoes anyway. If I'm leaving a pair of pumps @ home for these, so they WILL be USED. 2. I walk AS MUCH as POSSIBLE. when I'm away from Texas. I walk in Texas too, but I have to as exercise, cause no one walks anywhere (if they can help it) there. 3. I have a yoga program on my laptop. But I am sure you can find one on YouTube too. (And I get up early or stay up late to use it!) 4. I have a meditation app for my Ipad. It reminds me to take the time to meditate. I always feel better when I do. Every single time! So I look forward to doing this. I am calmer, more relaxed and have a better time. 5. I do Tai Chi (T'ai chi ch'uan). There are programs on line & check the city you are visiting. People usually get together in parks and new people are always welcome! *What a great way to meet people in a new city?! 6. Water. Bring your own and purchase LOTS at market. When you fly esp. your Body NEEDS more hydration. So drink up! And I try to eat Healthy, but I also allow myself to eat a Reese Peanut buttercup too. I eat desert sometimes and mostly whatever I want; I just keep it within reason. Eat more = work out more. It's Just that simple. I like to try locale food, but as a vegetarian that can be somewhat limiting. Raw is always good though. Most Markets you can always find some veggie/fruit you recognize and that makes a great picnic lunch. :D Also the bread in France is totally different than the bread in the US. Really!! So do take the time to exercise, eat right, meditate and you will have a better trip. You will feel better and that alone will make the trip better.
