Ready, Set, Jet!

Is it just me, or is August just flying by? I feel like between all the traveling, working, and repacking, that it’s been hard to catch up. And sadly I have to admit I started this post way back in MAY! WTF?! But May was a busy month....I had company, a large project to get off the ground at work, new challenges with xxxx (I will share that one later) and then all the normal stuff. But I did manage to read a few new good books! Reading helps me relax, so no matter how busy I am, I usually can carve out time to read. The Beauty Myth - It was recommended to me from a British mate. It's a smart book we all should read, but WARNING - it will make you angry. Why? There are so many subtle ways we are culturally defined as women! I feel after having lived not only in the US but in Europe that it is much worse in America and in particular in the southern United States. So yeah, it's a smart book. It is well written and it will make you stop and think about what we consider as "normal" espically how women are judged and defined by their beauty. ![]() And honestly this book hooked me from the beginning, with the fascinating topic of "How images of beauty are used against women." Heady stuff that will piss you off and make you question what you accept about yourself or your daughters/sisters/girlfriends. Also just how does religion play into this? Honestly I never considered religion in the whole beauty debacle so that was an eye opening theory too. So it is worth a read? Yes. Actually, I dare you to read it- You might think, "Oh it's cultural," but honestly I think it's a global attitude about women. Yes, of course it is much worse in some countries, but even in more forward thinking countries it is totally crazy how women are compared, judged and held to crazy standard while men are not. But its even more unbelievable that we as intelligent, educated women accept it! So yes, I think you should read this book and then tell me what you think. Do you think it's accurate where you live? Let's discuss. I want to hear your take on it. I'm off now to work on more long, over due posts!
See you at the bookstore~ ![]()
Happy Hump Day Everyone!
I’m so, so glad to have almost made it through this week… it’s been extremely busy balancing work and keeping a personal life. I was on vacation last week, so it’s been a week of playing catch up, doing laundry, grocery shopping, blah blah blah. Since I had such a great time off, I wanted to put together all the amazing experiences I have had and share them with you! So perhaps in a few days that post will be up! Until then let's play "IG Explained"! You do follow me on IG, right? My IG name is: Msoneworld4me (Go figure!) ![]()
Well this may turn into another extremely short post, lol, as it seems I haven't posted much! WTF?
Okay, so why did I post the few I did?
The lovely white hibiscus... ![]()
I cannot tell you how lush and tropical it feels! This plant is really, really pretty and was/is loaded with fragrant white blooms. I stop every time I see it and am amazed at the sheer volume of blooms!
And speaking of rain...the two sky photos. The sky is huge and always dramatic in this part of the world, but with all the storms and rain showers it has really been putting on a show!
So many people come to New Mexico to take nature photos. You really never know what you will see or how the light will change the sky. While I do miss Texas, I feel truly blessed to live here.
The Mortica picture I posted was just funny. I keep hearing from my friends in Austin that is it incredibly hot there. Like melt your eyeballs out hot! OMG!
So that's another reason I haven't made a trip to the lone star state this year. But I do plan on visiting sometime, perhaps when it is cooler....maybe in December or January.
The happy smoothy bowl picture is one of many for the month. I decided that I would go raw for the month of August. You can read about some of my raw adventure here.
Remaining photos -
The balloons and the book, oil diffuser and moon painting we all birthday gifts. You can read about my birthday here. It's a vague post, making my stalker have to work extra hard to get the details! Lol The middle photo (for the BINGO!) was just something showing I really, really, needed a vacation! Yep, in hindsight I probably should have picked July to go raw for the month....#FML I always forget that people like to celebrate birthdays with food....lots and lots of cooked, sugary, sweet foods. (To read about my August Raw adventure so far click here.) And before you say it. "Yes, most places have salad, but.." But it seems that people tend to get upset when you don't eat cake or something to celebrate. I swear people are just too obsessed with food. Yes, that was me being ironic since lately all I have been posting is food pictures. (What is happening to me?!?) But don't get me wrong, I appreciate everyone taking the time out to go party with me. One day I will share the picture of my new, southwest krewe. In other birthday/non food related news... I have had a wonderful birthday. Thank you all!
Better Late Than Never... *Warning! Random Picture Post* I started this in June (2017) I have no idea why I didn't finish... So let's start from the beginning... This was the Vegancuts monthly snack box. It was GREAT, per usual. Check out all these healthy treats! So I searched my phone for other random June pictures... So that was my June, more or less.
Now on to the next 300 post in the queue! Catch you later- Are you on board for a raw August? Let’s go Raw together! The month is almost half over and it gets simpler every day to eat only raw! If you haven't started yet, that's okay too. Even just replacing one meal a day will help you. The best part of Rawgust for me, is all the great choices we have..so many fruits and veggies are in season! I have just finished the shopping today, having so much fun in the produce section of the market. Only buying fruits and veggies makes for a faster and more pleasant experience too! People complain that organic fruits and veggies are expensive, but when you are not buying other items (like cola, bread, cheese, etc.) you see that a $100USD buys so MUCH Goodness! And Speaking of Goodness... Did you know one serving of blueberries contains almost 25% of your daily requirement of vitamin C? Vitamin C is necessary for growth and development of tissues and promotes wound healing. #WIN Blueberries are also high in manganese. Manganese helps the body process cholesterol and nutrients such as carbohydrates and protein. So eat your blueberries! Oh and thank goodness Cherries are in season too! ![]()
![]() A few people have asked me what the hardest thing to give up was...Without a doubt it was coffee! I eat pretty good most days, usually enjoying at least one raw meal a day so going fully raw was pretty simple, except for no coffee. That's right NO COFFEE! ![]() We are 13 + days into the month now and I really don't miss it all that much. (But I'm not going to lie..the beginning was tough!) But enough about coffee-- Many Veggies are also in season right now. So there is no excuse...we have HUGE selections of flavorful options to graze through, lol. ![]() It seems odd that greens taste so good as raw wraps, but simple is sometimes best. I just cleaned out the leftover peppers, onions and added mushrooms/tomatoes for a killer supper wrap. And did I mention how wonderful I feel?
OMG I have so much energy and feel so good! How about you? Are you doing the raw challenge too? I'd love to hear what you are experiencing. See you at the Farmer's Market~ It's almost my birthday. (13 Aug) But the fun and surprises have already started! :D I'm taking off a FULL WEEK of work beginning in a few hours! Can you tell I'm super excited? I have actually been receiving birthday gifts all month long. #superspoilt
I'm so blessed to have so many wonderful friends and be surrounded by people that care about me! There are a few adventures planned this weekend and I'm going to attempt to load some of the old blog posts I have never finished too. So maybe I can sorta get caught up over the next few weeks. But in the meantime let's party! See you at the airport! I don't think in the five (5) years of this blog I have ever been this far behind!
Between work and road trips I have nooooo time for anything! (Sobs softly on Mac keyboard, because I am too tired to move.) I have been debating if I should spam all the old posts or just move forward from some magical, future date. Still considering, but at this point that date is late Feb. 2020, lol! #TrueStory But let me say thank you for continuing to visit here. I see you dear readers and I appreciate you checking back time and time again for a new post and finding none, reading old random crap. You guys make me want to continue the blog, so let's see what happens, shall we? In the meantime, see you at the airport? |
