What will the future hold? Hello! Well I just LEAPED out there and bought my domian. I went from the free website hosting to the PAID for site. No biggey, but yes, it is. So thank you ALL who have stopped by the old site and Hello to new people. I am writing mostly for myself at this point. Although it would be really nice if the website could at least pay for itself... So tell me what you want to see, ok? Within reason of course. It's not THAT KIND of site, lol. Catch you later.. So here are a few useless fashion shots I took in the month of April. For the New Orleans trip I tried to pack smart and choose pieces that work in many different ways + look good too. I did not wear any jewelry there, as I am not going to get mugged over it. :( So I started out the month thinking "Oh this will work and ended up slacking off, of course.." LOL So there aren't many pixs. The Larimer & Tibetan Silver Set I wore with the new outfit below. It was a big step in changing it up, as most of my clothing is black/white. + I have to look business like without over dressing for work. So it can be tricky. + There is the F'ing heat! So look good, dressy and not be sweating when it's 105'. :( Was preparing for the NOLA trip here. The weather was tricky & I had limited space...As I said most of my clothes are Black in White. WTF? But they are actually really easy to mix & match. I put on a nice sweater or jacket & change the jewelry & it completely changes the outfit. And Shoes! I love shoes! Purple Tommy H sweater & green snake skin shorts. Yeah Nola's warm Weather! Mix in a couple of great fiting jeans & your ready for anything, lol Bought these right before I left.
So I'm asked all the time how do I get the best deals on travel? Well, I shop around & do research. So here a few of the sites I use. For booking flights in USA 1. My "Go to site" for everything is Hotwire 2. Then Actual airline home page. 3. Then Hotwire again! Because they will let you check up to 6 sites at a go. Also prices can change quickly. Update that screen & watch the fair go up. Have Hotwire email you when prices change (before you book) it's free: just make an account. Also I have tried many other sites. For instance, there is 1 that emails you great deals, but every time I follow link the fare is never correct, that just wastes my time. Hotwire is the best, (I have found.) If you know of a better one email me. Now miles & me.. It's the same thing everyone says, but it is true. If you know you want to fly then sign up for miles. Get everything your already buy adding to your miles. I think 1800flowers (or is it the other one?) Will offer miles for $ spent, as do a lot of other merchants you may already be shopping with. Also watch when airlines offer miles on special. This is when you can transfer or purchase miles for little or no service charge. But also realize if you want to get miles for say 2 tickets to Hawaii from Denver - it's going to take a while; like maybe years to accumulate that many miles. (Especially if you’re buying just Starbucks and flowers. LOL) So as I said get other things adding to your miles, but also don't go crazy, because if you get a new credit card & max it to get miles & have trouble paying it down- then it's not a savings. Savvy? I also think that frequent flier miles can be over rated. If you compare flights & your saving $50 each way or more going with another airlines then, (depending on your situation) which is the better deal? Say 300 miles or $100 more in your pocket, right? If you or loved one is racking up the miles through work or what have you, great use them. But if not don't expect to fly 2 times & pick up a free ticket. So anyway, I use Hotwire, check to see if where I want to go is even possible. (Yes, really) and then find the best deal. I then go to airline website & check them. Usually Hotwire is cheaper. It may only be $5 but that $5 I put in my pocket. I have never had a problem from a flight booking on Hotwire & that's saying a lot. Now I've had a hiccup or 2 on hotels, but it's been the hotels fault not Hotwire. Usually all you have to do is say, "lets call them" & the hotel staff will straighten up. But once again follow the procedure - have picture id, make sure person who is listed as reserving room is with you, & have a cc for the hotel to put tax or incidentals on. Hotwire tells you all this when you book, but ppl forget. Also they (Hotwire) purchase/pay for room with their card & it shows their SF address, hotel system becomes confused (for whatever reason) & clerk makes frown face & reports, ”Your card failed.” Meaning hotwire is not paying for your incidentals. You need new (personal card) for this. Easy peasy fixed. (Translate= Room paid in advance via you to Hotwire. New charges your own your own mate!) Most often the hotel has given me wrong bed type or something similar. Nothing big. But if I pay for a twin, I want a twin. Right? So also keep in mind hotwire may NOT be the cheapest site for hotels. (We are talking FLYING right now, sorry I got off track.) But keep in mind when booking FLIGHTS: • If you are booking far in advance buy the insurance. Really. Also know what changes can be made & the cost. Now. Before. You. Need. To Make Them. • Check fares on Wednesday • Refresh screen & jump on the good deals fast. They do change in a matter of minutes. Good luck & happy flying. I'll talk about overseas booking next if anyone is interested? "In order to hit the nail on the head you need to hit a horseshoe a hundred times."
Miguel de Unamuno (Who was a Spanish educator, philosopher, and author, 1864-1936. Just in case you were wondering.) I noticed sometime while I was in New Orleans, both Roxann & I turned into sailors. Rough, Salty Sailors. Every other word out of our mouths was fuck, "fuck this, fuck that"...wtf? Not that I was a angel before then... but I use it so liberally in my blog because this is how I type texts & in real life my speech is peppered with wtfs as well. Why should I change my personality on my blog to make other people happy? Your reading a blog I wrote dealing with MY LIFE & ADVENTURES. I do refrain from raining insults down on people & picking sides in the current Political Debacle; You’re welcome. :/ The other common phrases I use now are: "fuck me running!" & "People are so fucking crazy?" in wonderment, but I don't want to write about that... Stories I could tell you about people doing things that make no sense. Because it seems my friends and I are the only ones noticing these things? Like people doing horrible, unthinkable things to each other; for no apparent reason and nothing is ever solved or explained later on? No follow-ups other than sensationalism. No, I think there is way too much of that being talked now. And not in a “lets try & heal/understand” dialogue, but more as "thrilling/rape the people" Bull Shit disguised as journalism. (You feel me?) That’s the kind of writing that poisons everything around it, that’s the kind of writing, less the cussing; that is really offensive. So go pick on them or go fuck yourself. Your call. I guess what I'm trying to say is if my writing offends you, then leave. It will probably only get more distasteful (& more real) as the blog grows & gets more personal. So I left NOLA & headed home via Houston to Austin. The NOLA airport is actually in Kenner & that's why a taxi to the quarter cost so much. Think Heathrow & central London. So I am amusing myself in airport... They do have fast & FREE wifi! Austin, Texas airport. I swear they should have a baggage claim just for guitars, oh wait they do! Lolol My new "travel" purse worked out really well, except its meant to be worn like a pack back & I took my pack back..the only time I wore both was in airports and it was difficult. :( But other than that worked well. I am always searching for a good all purpose travel bag. Do you have a good one? So anyway, I go to long-term parking & pick up my truck and off I go. About 5 miles down the road I feel the front start to "knock" OH SHIT! So I find a safe (hahah like that’s a joke!) place to pull over and check the tires. Nothing-- they all look fine. WTF?!? Ok, I convince myself that it must have been rough or uneven road or something and go on. As I leave Austin & speed up it gets MUCH worse. OH NO! So now I am in the country and I HAVE To stop. There isn't even a shoulder now. I am determined to stop at the 1st driveway/alley/cattle guard/road that I can find. So I finally come up on one.. (Why is it always like that?) and as I turn in I notice I have pulled into a church school. Ok, cool I guess. I jump out and see the problem. I am in the process of having a blow out! I am so thankful this didn't happen at 2:30 a.m. in the pouring rain & hail when I was driving IN to Austin. The rain was so bad I missed my turn & had to circle back. (Glamorous travel stuff, huh?) I boarded the F’ing plane before 4:30 a.m. which explains why I was so tired & some of my earlier crappy pictures from the beginning of the trip. (I apologize again, the crappy ones from Jimmy Buffets were because I had a date & I don’t see him that often.) *shy :X Anyway, the flight back was a lot better. I think it was around 3:00 pm when all this is going on. So I get out & walk around the school. I find a group of men. They do not speak English. So I talk to them in Tex-Mex with a few words of French thrown in for good measure and sign language. I tell them if they change tire for me I give them$$. They seem to be very afraid of me and will not even go near the truck or me. (WTF?) At this point I need to state I was dressed civilized and appropriate for church even (I pulled on a long sleeve blouse and almost had heat stroke, but ok) I was not mad, excited or afraid, but thinking back on it how odd? I was surrounded by a group of men and they were afraid of me??? 1 crazy white woman?? (Also so much for these men being Christians and helping a poor traveler?!) IDK Maybe there has been a rash of single, smartly dressed white women luring men to their deaths recently in South Austin? I went back to the truck and started calling people and had someone was there to fix the tire quickly. But THE POINT is WTF? Telling this story to my friends their questions: (+All of them " Why didn't you call me?" how sweet, huh? I am soo lucky to have so many good people in my life.) Anyway, Friend #1: Where you wearing your Rob Zombie T-Shirt? Me: NO Dylan: Where you waving a sword around? Me: No Friend #2: Where you insulting them in Spanish? Me: Not in the beginning. BF: You could have been killed! Me: Hardly, relax. Rick: I pity them if they had messed with you. Me: ? Now, don't get me wrong. I am glad they did not harass me. Cause I take no shit. But a little help with the tire would have been nice. I ended up walking around and taking pictures of the area while I was waiting. And no one said Boo to me. IDK, maybe I had been strolling around the Quarter for a few days and just wasn't really scared of much and they sensed it? Who knows. *Struts like a badass now* Grotto So it all worked out & I made it home ok. Just made for another adventure. LOL
Now, I'm off to capture the next kingdom and take the dragons for a walk. Later- So I actually did a little work (really) and went to see another old friend. We walked around, did a little shopping had a nice dinner and caught up. & I realized just how much I miss him...:( Jackson Square Forgot to really take any photos at 2nd hotel. It was the Sheraton & was nice, expensive & full of people. Jazz Fest + a convention. Lobby was huge, had t-shirts, event tickets, Starbucks, lounge, wine tasting, etc. No pictures because everytime I went to check it out got hit on by random businessmen - so left quickly. WTF?! Do I look like I want to chat? Grr I couldn't even get coffee @ Starbucks for all the crazy men milling about. :X Luckily my guy brought me coffee. :) Walked around the French Market, which seemed to be deserted? Went to the Flea Market too. It is getting to be more and more imported junk. I miss the days when it was local handmade stuff. But I guess they have to bring in what sells. I didn't take any photos there, or buy anything. Tradition is that I eat at at least 1 meal in Margaritaville, why? I dont' have a clue. hahaha Always feel weird taking pictures of the menu..like It's rude. But can never remember what food cost either. I guess I like the place because the colors are so bright & intense. Cause truth be told I am not overly fond of the Caribbean. But I do like Florida (a lot) Oh! and they do make a GREAT MARGARITA! Parts of our dinner, after I remembered to take photos, lol I did actually buy this....for my mother! I found out a couple of years back (when I took her to the Quarter) that she has a "thing" for Jimmy Buffet. She didn't want a t-shirt, so I got her this. She calls them "toothpick holders" we know them as shot glasses, but hey..whatever. LOL I could do a complete post on her "toothpick" holders, she has so many. Also stopped by Peaches records. Didn't know they were still pressing Vinyl?! But clerk told us some of the records were original (as in back in the day?! WTF !) & some newly pressed! Who knew? 2J's ahh memories... Do you see a theme here? LOL I did buy Beignet Mix..I was out at home. You can order off Amazon, but it just feels wrong, lol And another. Lovely end to a lovely day...
