![]() 1st if you read this bog, (thank you both) then you know I rarely use the word “Vacation”. I will say trip, travel, and holiday or Adventure, etc. I really don’t like the word vacation. ![]() For me the word Vacation brings to mind images of racing the clock to make your flight, long lines in Disney, screaming children, over packed suitcases, loud tourists and over priced hotels. I could really do without all of that. I prefer a “holiday”; you know - a “break” from work. Maybe a thrilling “adventure” and definitely great “trip” and throw in some R & R that brings you back to yourself. You know, I want to return rested and centered. Better than when I left. Not those damn vacations were you have to return to work to recover. WTF?! So, ok we know that a stressful vacation is worse than no break at all. But what can we do to make that next holiday better? 1. Take your damn leave. Go on vacation and don’t over do. Take small trips every 3-4 months. You can plan around a long holiday weekend and not use all your time up, but still get away long enough to do some good. But don’t but it off, you need to take the time off. 2. Don’t over book yourself. Be realistic, you’re not going to see all of the European sights in 10 days nor should you plan to. Allow at least one day for doing nothing. Sleep in, take a longer lunch, read by the pool or stay later at the amusement park, whatever- remember your suppose to be doing some relaxing here. ![]() 3. Plan physical activities, but once again be realistic. If you work behind a desk, or have another sedentary job then planning an 8-hour hike is just asking for trouble. Go and explore, just plan accordingly. 4. Don’t plan an ironclad itinerary. Things change, weather, flights, strikes, its’ all part of the adventure. Be flexible. Roll with it and make the best of it. A Vacation should be a fun or at least non-stressful time when you can not only chill, but also maybe learn something new and hopefully when you return your better for the experience.
