Ready, Set, Jet!

Then this came through from RyanAir today. (Pretty sweet deals!) So thats roughly $31.08USD or 23.26EU. But if you want to go that cheap then you had better book from the Ryanair site and not on a US site. Why? If you book on US site you will pay 911 taxes...even if you are flying from UK to EU. (You will save approx. $99.00USD per ticket ) Which is nothing to sneeze at. The site is safe, the airline is budget, but safe. No, it's not one of my favs. but keep your bags to a minimum and hold your nose and go. It's a short, safe flight. Plus I really love his part of France. Ok, so where is this Car-Ca-Sonne? Please see map below.. Carcassonne (French pronunciation: [kaʁ.ka.sɔn]; Occitan: Carcassona) is a fortified French town in the Aude department, of which it is the prefecture, in the former province of Languedoc. It is divided into the fortified Cité de Carcassonne and the more expansive lower city, the ville basse. Carcassone was founded by the Visigoths in the fifth century, though the Romans had fortified the settlement earlier. The fortress, which was thoroughly restored in 1853 by the theorist and architect Eugène Viollet-le-Duc, was added to theUNESCO list of World Heritage Sites in 1997. (From Wiki go read more yourself, ok?) I have been like, hmmm maybe 5 times in the past 10 years? 1st time was just to get to France, had no idea about the town, BUT AS WE FLEW OVER I WAS BLOWN AWAY. Huge fortified cite means its a HUGE CASTLE. So if you like that kinda stuff go and explore. :D Staying in the Cite is expensive, but staying further down in the "new" area is very afforadable. We spent a week at a Gite in May of 2011. Very nice, good market and train station is small but connects well. (I think if I remember right we rode train from Barcelona, Spain to Perpignan, France (met a wonderful artist who spoke great English and we visited the whole ride.) We spent a couple of days there and then took the train to Carcassonne. All of it was affordable and safe, btw. I cannot find anymore of my pictures. (So this means I MUST RETURN) :D So anyway, people are barging into my office now...expecting me to work--(WTF?!) So guess I had better. Busy weekend ahead.
I hope you find time to visit Carcassonne. It's a magical place. Laters~ Hello Again! Am continuing on with the Saint Gervais Trip of Aug 2010. (My How time flies!) I hope the uploader with cooperate today. We stayed in a typical chalet. It was very quaint (see pictures below) I really enjoyed being there. You know people always say the air in the alps is wonderful..well thats true! Some people stay year round, others are just enjoying the great off season discounts. I think there was a pool? Maybe? Sorry don't recall. :( Most Gites in France come with books and board games! Because you know about French TV, right? We ate a lot of simple food outside on our picnic table. It was SO GOOD. So Fresh and so flavorful! Mouth is watering now... I almost forgot pictures of the church in the village. I love old buildings of any kind. Good Night.
Ok thats all I found so far of our week in Saint Gervais, France. Sadly there were sooo many more pictures. :( Am working on a Bath, UK post next! Till then-
The Alps
Hello! I have another "Throw Back" Post today. This time Saint Gervais, France. I wanted to go some where different for my birthday in 2010, so we decided to visit the alps for a week! :D We were in the South of France that year, so it was pretty easy to get there. We flew into Geneva, Switzerland and had a car service pick us up and transport us to the gite. It was August, so off season, but was really a nice holiday. Also The annual meteor shower was exceptional viewed from the alps! Warning: Picture heavy post. So I was really daring and booked this place last second. (Not something I usually do) But got a GREAT Deal. Like I say is was off season, so that helped too. I have a TON of pictures from the trip, well I should say HAD, these are a few I pulled off Snapfish, again. Sadly all the rest are toast, :( So please to enjoy a trip to the French Alps. St Gervais les Bains (also referred to as St Gervais or St Gervais Mont Blanc) is not a recently purpose built resort, and so has a significant year round population, (approx 5,200) rather than just seasonal. It is full of historical buildings giving it the traditional charm much sought after in the alps. The Village is also famous for its flowers. You will see villages marked with flowers symbols on maps in France. This means they have won awards for the beauty of their flower decorations. Bakery was very good.
But be warned only a VERY FEW people in the village speak English. There was a good sized (for Europe) Casino Market in town too, If I remember correctly. It looks like I am going to have to cut this post in half. Uploader is not working and is taking forever. So one more shot of Mt Blanc and more next time. Hello! Bon Jour! This is a "Throw Back" Post. I am not in Paris Today (very sad Face) :( All my older photos are toast (another sad face) BUT I went to my trusty Snapfish account and pulled some off there. Quality is not all that good, nor are they edited much...But Paris really doesn't need much in the way of editing. So here are some random walking around and sightseeing pictures of Paris, enjoy! So what's a better thing to do on a rainy day then spend it at the Louvre? We walked over from our apartment (it’s not that close, but in Paris walking is so much fun!) there is always so much to see. More than 8 million visitors each year, the Louvre is the world's most visited museum. it is located on the Right Bank of the Seine in the 1st arrondissement. (See Wikipedia if you need more info. ) There is ALWAYS a crowd inside. This Creeps me out --The Nike of Samothrace (winged Victory), marble, circa 190 BC It's HUGE & Headless :X Fought the crowd to get THIS close. Always forget how small the painting really is. Meanwhile just across from it is this SUPER large one. Inside looking out. I took about 1,000 more pictures. But I'll edit them later (maybe). I could spend YEARS inside and never fully see everything. Really LOVE the Louvre! I am always looking UP. WTF? I don't know why, but I do see some amazing things, lol That is also why I don't do too many videos. HAHAHHA Thats all for now. More next time-
OH to have time to read~~~ :0 (And more room to store all the books, lol) Yeah, yeah I know Kindle or IPAD. But it's JUST NOT THE SAME as holding an old book. You know? I would love to say I am a "collector" but that implies images of pristine, never read books. Umm Nope. Most of mine are dog eared and very well read. It may be YEARS in between readings, but if I love a book (some I really do) then yes, it's like meeting an old friend again..I will read and re-read. Plus others books remind me of people that were in my life once and reading them again is like revisiting that time of my life. And so many people now give me books as gifts, so sweet! But yes, I do have a few on my lappy. Mainly to be kinder to my suitcases. Which also means extra room for more SHOES when I travel! So what is everyone reading out there? Any suggestions?
Yes, I admit I have a pile of new books fresh from Amazon. AND no time to really read...:( GRRR... So have booked this weekend as "busy" on the calendar. :) I am taking the entire weekend as R & R to stay home and read! So don't call me.. See ya Monday! I don’t watch a lot of TV. Ok let me be honest I watch like NO TV. When I rent in France, the first thing they always say is, “You know about French tv, yes?” “Yes,” I reply and we finish each other’s sentence with “it’s unreliable” But who in the bloody HELL goes to France to watch TV? Anyway, it is never a problem, but back in Texas when it’s a smoldering 105’ outside a little TV is nice, lol.
So one of my buddies told me about True Blood on HBO. I was like, “um what?” Another Vampire show? Set in Louisiana too? Been there, done that. And with the Queen of Vamps, Ms Ann Rice, thank you very much! *Read her books NOW if you have not. Twilight my ass, don’t even. Anyway, it went something like this: Buddie: “No, No you gotta watch this.” Me: “Hmm, Why?” Buddie: “Lots of hot guys…lots and good story too. Good acting” Ok, that was the right combination to get my attention. + I was bored. She brings over her Blue Ray set season 1 & I watched the pilot. I was hooked! OMG! Shortly after I bought my own set, LOL and not just for the Hot Men, which they DO HAVE, by the way.. I bought the series because it is set in rural Louisiana, which is a lot like most towns in the South, mine included. The dialogue is funny and smart & right on the money. The writers, or at least 1 -spent time (or grew up, am guessing) in the south. Because you have to BE here to understand the way things work, its really not something that is even explainable to someone else. Don’t get me wrong, I love my Yankee friends, but do tire of everything being set up North, with Northern problems. Says the woman who watches no tv. Everything could be set in the South now, for all I know. It’s not, right? Anyway, True Blood is based on books written by Charlaine Harris. (Whom did/does live in the South.) I have started reading the books too, because I am waiting for the next season to come out on HBO. -June 16, 2013 according to the HBO website. So anyway, what do you think? Anyone else watch True Blood? Or have another show to recommend while we are waiting? |
